Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, a rare honor for any film or film production, especially an American one
Chronology
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, is thrust into a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future. The British government allows them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (at Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.

The only location unavailable was Winfield House, the real-life residence of the American ambassador. Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes.
I’m so glad I did because it was great
I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many great things about it and reading all the great reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m actually surprised at how much I enjoyed it.
It had me hooked from the first episode
While Keri Russell was great in The Americans, I thought it was more about the writing than her acting, so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell could carry the series as the leads, but absolutely, they’re both fantastic here. The chemistry between these two is what makes this show so good.
I could definitely see this series winning some awards
