VIBA-Calc© allows the user to load an image and then draw a rectangle containing both breasts. By simply clicking on a button, the program finds the midline of the rectangle and calculates the final score, as well as the color map of asymmetric regions. Classification into symmetric or asymmetric categories using OBCS and VIBA scores agreed in most cases. Concordance between both classification systems was almost perfect in the group of postoperative cases (k = 0.84; p less then 0.001), and substantial in preoperative cases (k = 0.76; p less then 0.001). Global Cohen’s kappa coefficient was 0.80 (p less then 0.001). VIBA© is a useful tool for pre- and post-operative evaluation of breasts, that could be used both in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery.
Four polygalacturonase gene family members were highlighted that contribute to elucidate the roles of polygalacturonase during the fertility conversion process in male-sterile wheat. Polygalacturonase (PG) belongs to a large family of hydrolases with important functions in cell separation during plant growth and development via the degradation of pectin. Specific expressed PGs in anthers may be significant for male sterility research and hybrid wheat breeding, but they have not been characterized in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). In this study, we systematically studied the PG gene family using the latest published wheat reference genomic information. In total, 113 wheat PG genes were identified, which could be classified into six categories A-F according to their structure characteristics and phylogenetic comparisons with Arabidopsis and rice. Polyploidy and segmental duplications in wheat were proved to be mainly responsible for the expansion of the wheat PG gene family. RNA-seq showed that TaPGs have specpecific upregulated (TaPG09, TaPG95, and TaPG93) or downregulated (TaPG87) at trinucleate stage of fertile anthers, and further aligning with the homologous in Arabidopsis revealed that they may undertake functions such as anther dehiscence, separation of pollen, pollen development, and pollen tube elongation, thereby inducing male fertility conversion in KTM3315A. These findings facilitate function investigations of the wheat PG gene family and provide new insights into the fertility conversion mechanism in male-sterile wheat.
Granular cell tumors (GCT) are highly vascularized and adherent to adjacent structures, and so, complete resection represents a challenge. Adjuvant therapy decisions for residual GCTs currently relies on individual clinician decisions due to a paucity of systematic literature data. We present a comprehensive analysis about the impact of adjuvant therapy in reported cases of patients with incomplete GCT resection.
One database (PubMed) and crossed references were queried for GCT with incomplete resection or biopsy from 1962 to 2020. Literature review was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. Also, two patients with residual GCT from our institutions are added to the analysis. Data regarding clinical presentation, surgical approach, use of adjuvant therapy, Ki-67 labeling, and follow up assessments were extracted and analyzed from selected publications.
Thirty-three studies met the predetermined inclusion criteria and 53 patients were selected (including our two reported cases). The median of age was 49 [IQR, 39-60years], with a slight male predominance (1.21). Among the surgical procedures, seven (13%) were biopsies alone. Adjuvant therapy was used in 18 patients (radiotherapy, 94.5%; chemotherapy, 5.5%) but there is no statistical correlation with adjuvant therapy and the progression of the remnant tumor (p = 0.33). Our institutions’ patients did not receive adjuvant therapy and did not show tumor progression on MRI.
Our systematic literature review suggests there is a limited role for chemo and/or radiotherapy in the management of incomplete GCT resection. It may be reasonable recommending close clinical follow up in patients with incomplete resection.

As opposed to traditional methods of pattern identification, machine learning tools relies on artificial intelligence to map out patters from large amounts of data, can self-improve as and when new data becomes available and is quicker in accomplishing these tasks. This review describes various techniques of machine learning that have been used in the past in the prediction, detection and management of infectious diseases, and how these tools are being brought into the battle against COVID-19. In addition, we also discuss their applications in various stages of the pandemic, the advantages, disadvantages and possible pit falls. An ultrasensitive 1O2-based electrochemical aptasensor by on-line assembly of photosensitizers using graphene oxide (GO) as a cartridge is reported. In the presence of target protein lysozyme, the interaction of lysozyme with aptamer led to the dissociation of dsDNA and release of the aptamer-lysozyme complex to solution, with DNA-c retaining on the electrode; then, the photosensitizer phloxine B (PB) was assembled on the electrode since GO can simultaneously adsorb DNA-c and PB molecules. Upon irradiation by a green LED, 1O2 was generated by photocatalysis of PB molecules and then cleaved the DNA-c, leading to remarkably decreased impedance signals that linearly respond with the logarithm of lysozyme concentration. Benefitting from the efficient photosensitization ability of PB and the high PB-loading capacity of GO, the developed sensor allowed determination of 0.001 to 100 nM lysozyme with a limit of detection of about 0.14 pM. The relative standard deviation (RSD) for five independent electrodes with 1 nM lysozyme was 3.1%, indicating satisfactory reproducibility. The sensor also showed excellent selectivity toward lysozyme in the presence of interfering substances and was applied to the determination of lysozyme in urine samples with recoveries ranging from 91 to 101%. selleck chemical The on-line assembly of photosensitizer technique opens a new way for amplified electrosensing of biomolecules. Graphical abstract An on-line assembly of photosensitizers and DNA on electrode was developed using graphene oxide a cartridge and the photocatalytic electrosensor can be used for label-free detection of lysozyme as low as 1 pM.
