Participants A total of 1744 Milwaukee, Wisconsin metropolitan area student encounters at two university health clinics. Methods Following consent, participants completed an eight-item demographic and behavioral questionnaire and provided a specimen for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Mycoplasma genitalium RNA testing. Results C. trachomatis (7.2%) and M. genitalium (6.7%) detection rates were highest, with C. trachomatis more likely to result in symptomatic infection in males and females. Female M. genitalium detection rates did not differ as a function of symptomatic status. Students identifying as African American were more likely to test positive for M. genitalium than other races/ethnicities. M. genitalium detection in both genders was a function of reported condom usage. Conclusions Students would benefit from familiarity with emerging STI agents, as well as behaviors associated with increased risk of STI.
Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infects and establishes latency in neurons in the ganglia of the cranial nerve, dorsal root and enteric ganglia. VZV reactivation in enteric neurons (enteric zoster) can cause non-specific abdominal pain and/or serious gastrointestinal dysfunction without cutaneous manifestations. Detection of VZV DNA in saliva may be useful for identifying enteric zoster. We evaluated the frequency of putative enteric zoster based on the presence of salivary VZV DNA in patients with acute abdominal pain.
Adult patients who visited the emergency room due to moderate to severe acute abdominal pain were prospectively enrolled at a tertiary hospital between May 2019 and November 2019. Abdominopelvic computed tomography (APCT) was performed in all patients. We also evaluated the presence of salivary VZV DNA in patients with confirmed coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) who were under stressful conditions. Saliva samples were collected from all studied patients. Enteric zoster was suspected based on the presence of salivary VZV DNA, detected using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
Fifty patients with moderate to severe abdominal pain were enrolled. Five of 50 patients exhibited positive VZV-DNA PCR results. APCT revealed that among these five patients, two had pancreatic head cancer, two had small bowel obstruction after intra-abdominal surgery, and one had no remarkable findings. However, all 14 patients with COVID-19 showed negative salivary VZV-DNA PCR results.
Approximately 10% of patients with moderate to severe acute abdominal pain showed positivity for salivary VZV DNA. Further studies are warranted on whether antiviral therapy based on salivary VZV-DNA PCR results may relieve abdominal pain in the studied patient population.

clinicaltrial.gov, number NCT03862092.The objective of the present study was to elucidate what student-athletes believe are the most significant barriers to consuming a healthy diet. 418 student-athletes at an NCAA Division 1 university were invited to complete a survey on their nutritional habits and barriers to healthy eating. The survey was designed utilizing the current literature in student-athletes and young adults and underwent a professional review and pilot study before use in data collection. 169 student-athletes (40%) fully completed the survey. Responses indicate the five most significant barriers are lack of time, easy access to unhealthy foods, cost of healthy foods, lack of knowledge about what foods are healthy, and lack of knowledge and skills to cook healthy foods, respectively. Further, data show significant relationships between several variables and the rate of selection of various barriers. Overall, these findings lay the groundwork for future interventions while also presenting initial, usable information for professionals.Low red-LED irradiances are an attractive alternative for enhancing microalgae photobioreactors treating digestate due to their potential contribution in decreasing area footprints with low energy consumptions. However, more information is required regarding the influence of digestate load on treatment performance and biomass valorisation when low-intensity red-LEDs are applied. Thus, this study assessed microalgae-based photobioreactors treating food waste digestate under different concentrations (5%, 25%, 50%, and 75%, v/v) at low red-LED irradiance (15 µmol·m-2·s-1). R428 nmr The removal efficiencies of soluble chemical oxygen demand (sCOD) at the end of the experiment ranged from 45% to 75% when treating influent loads between 5.3 and 79.1 g sCOD·m-3·d-1 (5% and 75%-digestate), respectively. Total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) was applied in loading rates between 3.2 and 48.5 g TAN·m-3·d-1 (5% and 75%, respectively) and removed with maximum efficiencies of 90%-100% in all trials. Nitrification-denitrification was proportionally more relevant when treating 5%-digestate, whereas volatilisation was the primary process in 25%, 50% and 75% concentrations. Microalgae presented adequate yields in all treatments, except in 75%-digestate, likely due to the blocking of light by the high solids concentrations. The assessment of the microalgae community and chlorophyll-a and carotenoids suggested that chlorophytes, mainly Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Scenedesmus sp. grew autotrophically, whereas cyanobacteria Pseudanabaena sp. grew mixotrophically. Moreover, the sustainability of red LED lighting applications can be increased by anaerobic digestion or agricultural valorisation of the biomass, enabled by its high N and P contents. Low-intensity red-LEDs may have promissory applications in the treatment of high-strength wastewaters.
Emergent research suggests that trauma-exposed Latinx college students are a particularly at-risk group for eating-related problems. For this reason, there is a need to further understand the cognitive processes that may underpin maladaptive eating among this vulnerable segment of the population.

The current study examined the role of mindful attention in relation to several distinct expectancies related to eating.
Results indicated that lower reported levels of mindful attention were associated with greater levels of expectancies of eating to help manage negative affect, expectancies that eating will alleviate boredom, and expectancies that eating will lead to feeling out of control.
These findings suggest that it may be beneficial to assess for mindful attention among Latinx college students with a history of trauma exposure presenting with problematic eating behaviors.
