This study was designed to assess how these behaviors and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) c-Fos expression were impacted by 10.6-μm laser stimulation at acupoint ST36 a rat model of PTSD. A rat model of PTSD was prepared via prolonged exposure of animals to a stressor, followed by a 7-day period during which animals were allowed to rest undisturbed in their cages. Rats were randomized into four experimental groups (n = 12/group) the control, PTSD, LS, and sham LS groups. Control group animals were not subjected to SPS procedures prior to behavioral testing. LS and sham LS animals were administered LS treatment at bilateral ST36 acupoints or non-acupoints, respectively, for a 7-day period. Animals were then assessed for performance in elevated plus maze (EPM) tests and open-field tests (OFT), and their plasma corticosterone levels were measured. In addition, c-Fos-positive nuclei in the ACC were detected via immunohistochemical staining. Relative to sham LS treatment and PTSD model control rats, LS was associated with increased time spent in both open EPM test arms and in the central area in the OFT (P less then 0.05). The PTSD model group exhibited a significant reduction in ACC c-Fox expression, while LS treatment significantly increased this expression (P less then 0.001). In the current paper, use of different laser types including continuous and fractional CO2, argon, PDL, erbium glass, and NdYAG have been reviewed. Based on our review, given the high reported efficacy and low side-effect profile, use of laser can be considered as a good alternative to standard treatment of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL). Performing more studies using different types of lasers is recommended to evaluate the efficacy of this method for treatment of CL.STUDY DESIGN Retrospective review OBJECTIVES To report the frequency of pretreatment magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilization and rates and types of intra-spinal abnormalities identified on MRI in patients with early-onset scoliosis (EOS). MRI can help identify spinal cord abnormalities in patients with EOS. METHODS We reviewed data from patients enrolled from 1993-2018 in an international EOS registry. Patients with incomplete/unverifiable data and those with spinal deformities secondary to infection or tumor were excluded, leaving 1343 patients for analysis. Demographic characteristics, pretreatment major curve magnitude, treatment type, and MRI findings were analyzed. Patients were categorized by EOS type (congenital, idiopathic, neuromuscular, syndromic), pretreatment MRI utilization, and presence of intra-spinal abnormality on MRI. Univariate testing and multivariate logistic regression were performed to identify demographic, radiographic, and clinical predictors of MRI utilization and abnormal MRI fhe type of abnormalities appeared to differ by EOS type. METHODS The immunological pattern (rheumatoid factor; antinuclear antibodies-ANA, extractable nuclear antigens-ENA-Ab; anti-citrullinated protein antibodies; erythrocyte sedimentation rate) was evaluated in 20 acromegaly subjects (AS) and 20 control subjects (CS). Bilateral joint ultrasound of hands/wrists and nail capillaroscopy were also performed. RESULTS Articular pain was more frequent in AS than in CS (p = 0.027). No difference was detected in immunological parameters. ANA and ENA-Ab were positive in only 10% of AS and in 5% of CS, while no difference was found in anti-citrullinated protein antibodies. No difference was detected between rheumatoid factor positivity, but threefold higher IgG were detected in AS compared to CS. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate was significantly higher in AS than CS (p = 0.040), while in AS, there was a trend in increased Power Doppler (PWD) articular uptake.
