Portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis is a rare but potentially serious complication after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. There are no consistent studies that prove the safety and effectiveness of oral anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The objective was to evaluate the effect of rivaroxaban on the frequency of portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis and its safety profile after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
This retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data includes all laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomies performed by a single surgeon at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Hospital between January 2009 and June 2019. All patients received low molecular weight heparin thromboprophylaxis during the whole hospital stay. Between July 2012 and June 2019, patients received additional post-discharge thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban. Patient demographics, impaired renal, post-surgical portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis, and bleedingo to three days), followed by rivaroxaban 10mg once daily for 10 days after discharge (completing in total 13-14 days of prophylaxis), could reduce cases of post-surgical portal and mesenteric venous thrombosis without an increase in bleeding complications.Psoriasis is a chronic skin immune-mediated disease with systemic pro-inflammatory activation; both genetic and lifestyles factors contribute to its pathogenesis and severity. In this context, nutrition plays a significant role, per se, in psoriasis’ pathogenesis. Obesity is another important risk factor for psoriasis, and weight reduction may improve psoriasis’ clinical severity. The excess body weight, particularly visceral fat mass, can affect both drug’s pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Therefore, psoriasis and obesity share a certain degree of synergy, and the chronic inflammatory state represents the basis of this vicious cycle. Evidence reported that nutrition has different impact on the clinical severity of psoriasis, though some specific diets have been more investigated in clinical studies compared to others. Diets with systemic anti-inflammatory properties seem to have a higher effect on improving the clinical severity of psoriasis. Of interest, very-low-calorie ketogenic diet (VLCKD), through the production of ketone bodies, has been associated with both a significant reduction of body weight and inflammatory state. VLCKD leading to both weight loss and reduction of systemic inflammation may decrease the exacerbation of the clinical manifestations or even it may block the trigger of psoriatic disease. This dietary pattern could represent a potential first-line treatment in psoriatic patients with obesity. The review aims to summarize the current evidence regarding VLCKD and psoriasis with specific reference to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of this dietary pattern.Japanese astronauts started staying at the International Space Station (ISS) in 2009, with each stay lasting for approximately 6 months. In total, seven Japanese astronauts have stayed at the ISS eight times. As there is no law for protection against space radiation exposure of astronauts in Japan, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) created its own rules and has applied them successfully to radiation exposure management for Japanese ISS astronauts, collaborating with ISS international partners. Regarding dose management, JAXA has implemented several dose limits to protect against both the stochastic effects of radiation and dose-dependent tissue reactions. The scope of the rules includes limiting exposure during spaceflight, exposure during several types of training, and exposure from astronaut-specific medical examinations. We, therefore, are tasked with calculating the dose from all exposure types applied to the dose limits annually for each astronaut. Whenever a Japanese astronaut is at the ISS, we monitor readings of an instrument in real-time to confirm that the exposed dose is below the set limits, as the space radiation environment can fluctuate in relation to solar activity.
Primary benign right ventricular tumours are rare. They can cause significant mortality without appropriate and timely treatment. We investigated surgical treatment and survival characteristics for right ventricular tumours.
From 2007 to 2017, 21 patients with primary benign right ventricular tumours who underwent tumour resection were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical findings and follow-up results were analysed.
Thirteen men and eight women were enrolled, with a mean age of 42.3 ± 15.3 years. The most frequent histotypes were myxoma, haemangioma and papillary fibroelastoma. Eight patients underwent concomitant tricuspid valvuloplasty and one had tricuspid valve replacement. No major adverse events or death occurred during the perioperative period. One patient with haemangioma underwent partial tumour resection; however, the tumour regressed gradually during follow-up. Within the 10-year follow-up period (mean 4.8 ± 2.6 years), the recurrence-free and overall survival rates were 81.0% and 85.7%, respectively.
Tumour resection for primary benign right ventricular tumours is safe and effective, and has a good prognosis. Tricuspid valvuloplasty or tricuspid valve replacement may be necessary for the resection of right ventricular tumours to improve the haemodynamics. Haemangiomas naturally undergo spontaneous regression.

There is a lot of research about how parents think about their child’s autism but we don’t know much about how parents talk with their kids about autism. How parents talk with their kids about autism may shape how kids see autism. BAY-1895344 supplier A team of autistic and non-autistic people (including a mother of an autistic person) did a study. We wanted to know if how parents talk with their kids about autism shapes how their kids see autism. Nineteen teens from a summer camp did interviews and surveys. Their mothers did surveys. Teens learned about if they had autism in different ways. Some teens still didn’t know they were autistic. Teens whose moms chose to tell them about their autism talked about autism and themselves more positively than teens whose moms didn’t choose to talk with them about autism. Only teens whose moms chose to talk with them about autism described themselves as having social strengths. Teens had a harder time defining autism than moms. However, teens and moms talked about autism in similar ways. Our study shows that parents can help their kids see autism and themselves more positively by talking with their kids about autism early in development.
