    In contrast with the usual idiopathic intussusception appearing in infants, neonatal intussusception in full-term newborns is a rare entity and usually due to an organic lead point lesion. It has a misleading and variable presentation. This manuscript reports a very rare case of neonatal idiopathic intussusception in a full-term male newborn in order to highlight the difficulties in establishing an early diagnosis.

    We present a full-term male newborn who was referred to our department at day 7 of life with fecaloid vomiting, distended abdomen and absence of intestinal transit. No bloody stool was identified. The newborn was in poor condition, dehydrated and hypothermic. He was promptly resuscitated and an abdominal ultrasound was quickly performed, it showed an ileocecal intussusception located in the right hypochondriac region. An emergency laparotomy was performed confirming the ultrasound findings. The pathological exam of the resected bowel confirmed the presence of an intussusception with areas of hemorrhagic rearrangements but no lead point was detected. The patient died from septicemia.

It also illustrates the relevance of a pre-emptive resuscitation plan and how this might have affected the outcome in the patient.This report describes the transthoracic echocardiographic findings and computed tomography features of a 12-year-old West Highland white terrier with constrictive pericarditis (CP) secondary to pericardial mesothelioma. Although pericardial mesothelioma is well described in dogs, its association with CP in the canine population is not as widely reported. In this clinical case, a multidisciplinary imaging approach was helpful to identify anatomical and hemodynamic abnormalities that allowed for a diagnosis of CP.A 6-month-old, neutered male, Vietnamese potbellied pig presented for evaluation of exercise intolerance and intermittent episodes of exertional cyanosis. Initial diagnostic evaluation revealed arterial hypoxemia. Transthoracic echocardiogram revealed double-outlet right ventricle (DORV) and a subaortic ventricular septal defect. Agitated saline contrast study confirmed the entry of saline contrast from the right ventricle into both pulmonary artery and aorta. Due to deterioration of clinical status, the patient was euthanized 3 months later. Gross necropsy examination was performed confirming the congenital cardiac defects noted on the echocardiogram. To the authors knowledge, this is the first case report of DORV in a Vietnamese potbellied pig.

    There are few parameters for assessment of right ventricular (RV) systolic function on echocardiographic examination. selleck products Morphofunctional studies are limited by the irregular shape of the RV. Recently, tissue motion annular displacement (TMAD), a technique that evaluates valve annulus displacement towardthe cardiac apex, has shown a good correlation with left ventricular global longitudinal strain (GLS) in healthy dogs. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the longitudinal systolic function of the RV of healthy dogs using TMAD.

    A hundred healthy client-owned dogs.

    Cross-sectional study. Physical examination, electrocardiogram, blood pressure measurement, and echocardiography were recorded. The systolic function of the RV was evaluated by GLS free wall and TMAD. Data were compared with those derived from conventional echocardiography.

    TMAD values varied according to body weight. There was a correlation of TMAD in millimeters with all indices of RV systolic function, including GLS free wall (R-0.239; p0.017). TMAD had a correlation with age and heart rate; whereas there was no relationship with sex and blood pressure. The coefficient of variation for the intraobserver evaluation was lower for the TMAD in millimeters (9.9%) compared with the GLS free wall (17.9%). In addition, the mean time to perform TMAD (8.1s) was lower than that of the GLS free wall (37.7s).

    TMAD is a fast, reproducible, and promising method for assessing RV systolic function in healthy dogs. However, further studies are needed to understand the applicability of this technique in patients with heart disease.

In this view, we have designed and fabricated a highly efficient sensing laparoscopic instrument focused on precise non-invasive extralumenal intraoperative detection of small colorectal or gastric tumors. The equipment is fully adapted for laparoscopic surgery and consists of an inductive proximity sensor encapsulated into a watertight stainless-steel case that is connected to an electronic functional block dimensionally scaled-down by the desired form and size for optimal surgical manipulation. The sensor-case unit and the electronic block are coupled together using a modular system which allows disconnection of the latter and sterilization by autoclavation of the former, followed by swift plugging of the electronic block just before surgery in a sterile-controlled environment. The instrument works in tandem with a modified endoscopic hemostatic clip which is attached endoscopically, before surgery, in the mucosa proximal and distal to the tumor.
