Most articles in the scoping review focused on hospice personnel costs, followed by supplies/equipment, and other. Personnel and costs were higher for standard hospice children compared with concurrent care, whereas concurrent care children had higher supplies/equipment costs. Conclusions Identifying cost components are critical to economic analysis of pediatric concurrent care. These findings provide preliminary evidence about the difference in costs between concurrent and standard hospice care for children.Background Recognition awards from professional medical societies play an important role in physicians’ career advancement. Our aim was to evaluate the gender representation of award recipients from gastroenterology and hepatology societies. Methods We analyzed the lists of award recipients from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association, and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and determined the gender of these award recipients. The primary outcome was the overall representation of women physician award recipients as compared with the representation of women in the specialty. Results Between 1941 and 2019, there were 921 awards, of which 77 (8.4%) were given to women and 844 (91.6%) to men. There was a significant increase in the proportion of women recipients over time, from 0% in 1970-1984 to 22.0% in 2015-2019 (p for trend less then 0.0001). Compared with the concurrent representation of women in the specialty, women physician recipients were underrepresented from 1970 to 1981 and 1984 to 2015, equitably represented from 1981 to 1984, and overrepresented from 2015 to 2019. Of the total number of awards in each category, women received 13.8% of teaching/mentorship awards and 3.8% of the highest achievement awards (p = 0.002). The proportion of women recipients varied among the societies, from 6.8% to 14.5%. Conclusions The representation of women physician recipients of gastroenterology and hepatology society recognition awards has generally been low until most recently, when it has surpassed the proportion of women in the specialty. Because award recognition is important to career development, professional societies should have transparent processes that aim to identify and reduce various forms of bias, including gender-related bias, in all phases of award recognition.Background Optional features of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems empower patients and caregivers to understand and manage diabetes in new ways. We examined associations between use of optional features, demographics, and glycemic outcomes. Methods Retrospective cohort studies were performed with data from US-based users of the G6 CGM System (Dexcom, Inc.). For all cohorts, data included sensor glucose values (SGVs). In separate cohorts, use of alert features (for hyperglycemia, existing hypoglycemia, and impending hypoglycemia), remote data sharing feature (Share), software for retrospective pattern analysis (CLARITY), “virtual assistant” feature that announces the current SGV and trend in response to a spoken request were assessed. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize feature set utilization patterns and relate them to glycemic outcomes. Results Most individual features were consistently adopted by high proportions of G6 users. Threshold SGVs chosen for activating hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia alerts varied with age and were higher among the youngest and oldest patients. Use of the Share feature was more common among young patients and those with type 1 diabetes. Individuals who used more of the alert and notification features had more favorable glycemic outcomes, including time in range (TIR), than those who used fewer. More extensive engagement with CLARITY notifications was associated with higher TIR. Frequent use of the virtual assistant feature was associated with higher TIR and lower mean SGV. Conclusions Optional features of the G6 CGM system are acceptable to and appear to benefit patients who use them. Different levels of engagement suggest that demographics and personal circumstances play a role in how patients and caregivers use CGM features to help manage diabetes.Background The goal of this article was to investigate the feasibility of 64Cu labeling in prostate-specific membrane antigen imaging and therapy (PSMA I&T) for PSMA positron emission tomography (PET) imaging and biodistribution evaluation. Materials and Methods PSMA I&T was labeled with 64Cu, and stability in human and mouse sera was evaluated. Prostate cancer cell lines were used for specific uptake assays (22RV1 for PSMA-positive, PC-3 for -negative). Both PC-3 and 22RV1 cells were transplanted into the left and right thighs in a mouse for PET/computed tomography (CT) imaging. Biodistribution was performed using 22RV1 tumor models. Results Labeling yield (decay corrected) of 64Cu-PSMA I&T was more than 95% compared to the free 64Cu peak. The serum stability of 64Cu-PSMA I&T was maintained at more than 90% until 60 h. Regarding the specific binding of 64Cu-PSMA I&T, 22RV1 cells showed 7.5-fold higher than PC-3 cells (p  less then  0.001). On PET/CT imaging, more specific 64Cu-PSMA I&T uptake was observed in 22RV1 tumors than in PC-3 tumors. In the PSMA blocking study using 2-phosphonomethoxypropyl adenine (2-PMPA), the 64Cu-PSMA I&T signal significantly decreased in the 22RV1 tumor region. In the biodistribution study, the kidney uptake was the highest among all organs at 2 h (52.6 ± 20.8%ID/g) but sharply decreased at 24 and 48 h. Also, the liver showed similar uptake over time (range, 10-12%ID/g). On the contrary, 64Cu-PSMA I&T uptake of the tumors increased with time and peaked at 48 h (5.6 ± 0.1%ID/g). Furthermore, 64Cu-PSMA I&T might be considered as the candidate of future clinical trial.Doped and alloyed germanium nanocrystals (Ge NCs) are potential candidates for a variety of applications such as photovoltaics and near IR detectors. Recently, bismuth (Bi) as an n-type group 15 element was shown to be successfully and kinetically doped into Ge NCs through a microwave-assisted solution-based synthesis, although Bi is thermodynamically insoluble in bulk crystalline Ge. To expand the composition manipulation of Ge NCs, another more common n-type group 15 element for semiconductors, antimony (Sb), is investigated. Oleylamine (OAm)- and OAm/trioctylphosphine (TOP)-capped Sb-doped Ge NCs have been synthesized by the microwave-assisted solution reaction of GeI2 with SbI3. Passivating the Ge surface with a binary ligand system of OAm/TOP results in formation of consistently larger NCs compared to OAm alone. The TOP coordination on the Ge surface is confirmed by 31P NMR and SEM-EDS. The lattice parameter of Ge NCs increases with increasing Sb concentration (0.00-2.0 mol %), consistent with incorporation of Sb.
