Her brain function differed mainly in the positive valence and cognitive domains. During reward processing, she showed reduced activity in a left-hemispheric frontal network and cortical midline structures but increased connectivity within this network. During the working memory task patients’ brain activity and connectivity in left-hemispheric temporo-frontal regions were elevated. In the ToM task, activity in posterior cingulate cortex and temporo-parietal junction was reduced. We suggest that the high level of functioning in our patient is rather related to the effects in brain connectivity than to local cortical information processing and that subjective report provides a fruitful framework for interpretation.COVID-19 has significantly affected the use of health care worldwide and, consequently, admissions to hospital emergency services. The aim of this study is to describe the change of the activity of a Paediatric Emergency Service (PES) of a tertiary hospital during the pandemic. A retrospective cohort study with analysis of visits to the PES from March 30 to June 30, 2020, and comparison with homologous periods in the previous 3 years (2017-2019).A total of 53,883 episodes were analysed, with a median age of 5.8 years, and 53% were boys. In 2020, there was a 60% reduction in the number of admissions (p less then 0.001). There was a significant increase in referral by the public medical advice phone line of the National Health Service (NHS) (18.5% vs 5.4%) and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) (5.1% vs 4.2%). Urgent patients decreased (31.2% vs 38.3%), and non-urgent patients increased (7.5% vs 1.7%). There was a significant reduction in school (0.4% vs 7.1%) and sports accidents (0.1% vs 1.2%) and an increasethe phone line of the National Health Service and Emergency Medical Services. • The global admission rate to the ward increased but there were no admissions to intensive care or deaths.Diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer is based on disease staging identified through histopathological and molecular biology techniques. Animal models are used to gain mechanistic insights into the development of breast cancer. C(3)1-TAg is a genetically engineered mouse model that develops mammary cancer. However, carcinogenesis caused by this transgene was characterized in the Friend Virus B (FVB) background. As most genetic studies are done in mice with C57BL/6 J background, we aimed to define the histological alterations in C3(1)-TAg C57BL/6 J animals. Our results showed that C3(1)-TAg animals with C57BL/6 J background develop solid-basaloid adenoid cystic carcinomas with increased fibrosis, decreased area of adipocytes, and a high proliferative index, which are triple-negative for progesterone, estrogen, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) receptors. Our results also revealed that tumor development is slower in the C57BL/6 J background when compared with the FVB strain, providing a better model to study the different stages in breast cancer progression.
The diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPGs) are now defined by the type of histone H3 mutated at lysine 27. We aimed to correlate the multimodal MRI features of DIPGs, H3K27M mutant, with their histological and molecular characteristics.
Twenty-seven treatment-naïve children with histopathologically confirmed DIPG H3K27M mutant were prospectively included. MRI performed prior to biopsy included multi-b-value diffusion-weighted imaging, ASL, and dynamic susceptibility contrast (DSC) perfusion imaging. The ADC and cerebral blood flow (CBF) and blood volume (CBV) were measured at the biopsy site. We assessed quantitative histological data, including microvascular density, nuclear density, and H3K27M-positive nuclear density. Gene expression profiling was also assessed in the samples. We compared imaging and histopathological data according to histone subgroup. We correlated MRI quantitative data with histological data and gene expression.
H3.1K27M mutated tumors showed higher ADC values (median 3151 μm
(p = 0.02) than H3.3K27M mutant DIPG at their biopsy sites. • Biopsy samples obtained within the tumor’s enhancing portion showed higher microvascular density (p = 0.03) than samples obtained outside the tumor’s enhancing portion, but similar H3K27M-positive nuclear density (p = 0.84). • Relative cerebral blood volume measured at the biopsy site was significantly correlated with H3K27M-positive nuclear density (rho = 0.74, p = 0.02).
• H3.1K27M mutant DIPG had higher apparent diffusion coefficient (p = 0.003), lower α (p = 0.048), and lower relative cerebral blood volume (p = 0.02) than H3.3K27M mutant DIPG at their biopsy sites. • Biopsy samples obtained within the tumor’s enhancing portion showed higher microvascular density (p = 0.03) than samples obtained outside the tumor’s enhancing portion, but similar H3K27M-positive nuclear density (p = 0.84). • Relative cerebral blood volume measured at the biopsy site was significantly correlated with H3K27M-positive nuclear density (rho = 0.74, p = 0.02).
Triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries frequently cause ulnar-sided wrist pain and can induce distal radioulnar joint instability. With its complex three-dimensional structure, diagnosis of TFCC lesions remains a challenging task even in MR arthrograms. Heptadecanoic acid The aim of this study was to assess the added diagnostic value of radial reformatting of isotropic 3D MRI datasets compared to standard planes after direct arthrography of the wrist.
Ninety-three patients underwent wrist MRI after fluoroscopy-guided multi-compartment arthrography. Two radiologists collectively analyzed two datasets of each MR arthrogram for TFCC injuries, with one set containing standard reconstructions of a 3D thin-slice sequence in axial, coronal and sagittal orientation, while the other set comprised an additional radial plane view with the rotating center positioned at the ulnar styloid. Surgical reports (whenever available) or radiological reports combined with clinical follow-up served as a standard of reference. In addities is more accurate with access to radial multiplanar reconstructions. • Additional radial planes provide greater diagnostic confidence.
• In multi-compartment arthrography of the wrist, ancillary radial plane view aids assessability of the foveal and styloid ulnar-sided insertions of the triangular fibrocartilage complex. • Assessment of peripheral TFCC injuries is more accurate with access to radial multiplanar reconstructions. • Additional radial planes provide greater diagnostic confidence.
