Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is high risk extensive abdominal surgery. During high risk surgery less-invasive methods for measurement of cardiac index (CI) have been widely used in operating theater. We investigated the accuracy of CI derived from different methods (FroTrac, ProAQT, ClearSight and arterial pressure waveform analysis (APWA) from PICCO) and compared them to transpulmonary thermodilution (TPTD) during CRS and HIPEC perioperative and in ICU.
25 patients scheduled for CRS-HIPEC were enrolled in this study. On nine predefined time points (T1-T9) simultaneous hemodynamic measurements were performed in the operating room and intensive care unit. Absolute and relative changes CI were analyzed using Bland-Altman plot, four quadrant plot and interchangeability.
Comparing CI values, the mean bias was -0.1 L/min/m2 for ClearSight, ProAQT and APWA and -0.2 L/min/m2 for FloTrac compared with TPTD. Rituximab chemical structure All devices had large limits of agreement and high percentage of error 50,54,36 and 50%. Interchangeability 36%,47%,40% and 72% for respectively ClearSight, FloTrac, ProAQT and APWA. Trending capabilities expressed as concordance using clinical significant CI changes were ClearSight 85%, FloTrac 76%, ProAQT 76%, and APWA 66%. Mean angular bias ± radial LoA were -7º±39º,-19º±38º,-13º±41º and -15º±39º respectively. Interchangeability in trending showed low percentages of interchangeable and gray zone data pairs for all devices.
During CRS-HIPEC, ClearSight, FloTrac and ProAQT systems were not able to reliably measure CI compared to TPTD. Reproducibility of changes over time using concordance, angular bias, radial LoA and interchangeability in trending of all devices is unsatisfactory.

Modification of chitosan by catechol functionalization is useful for developing chitosan derivative with the improved mucoadhesive property. Present study was designed to perform single dose acute oral toxicity on chitosan-catechol conjugates in Swiss albino mice as per international guidelines. Oral administration of modified chitosan did not exhibit any significant change in body weight, behavioural pattern, haematology, food intake and clinical symptoms in the experimental animals. In the histopathological study, no pathological changes were observed in the vital organs of mice when administered perorally with 300 mg/kg and 2,000 mg/kg body-weight doses of chitosan-catechol polymeric conjugates. Overall, it was concluded from the acute oral toxicity study that the oral administration of chitosan-catechol conjugates in mice did not produce any toxicity. Hence, chitosan-catechol conjugates could be designated and recommended as safe polymeric material for developing different drug delivery systems.
Demand for hand sanitizers has surged since the coronavirus broke out and spread around the world. Hand sanitizers are usually applied by squirting the sanitizer liquid when one presses a pump with one’s hand. This causes many people to come into contact with the pump handle, which increases the risk of viral transmission. Some hand sanitizers on the market are automatically pumped. However, because sanitizer containers and pump devices are designed to be compatible only between products produced by the same manufacturer, consumers must also repurchase the container for the liquid if they replace the hand sanitizer. Therefore, this paper suggests the design of an automatic hand sanitizer system compatible with various sanitizer containers.
An automatic hand sanitizer system was designed, which will be presented in two stages describing the instrument structure and control parts. This work focused on using the elasticity of pumps and improving people’s access to devices.
We have designed an automatic hand sanitizer system that is compatible with various containers. When one moves one’s hand close to the device sensor, the hand sanitizer container is pumped once.
The automatic hand sanitizer device proposed in this paper is ultimately expected to contribute to contactless hand disinfection in public places and virus infection prevention. Additionally, it is economical and eco-friendly by decreasing waste emissions.

Flashcards are one of the most popular and optimized ways to learn factual knowledge and improve memory performance. Students of modern age, who use smart technology and mobile devices in their daily lives, often lack the time and motivation to create and use flashcards effectively. We aim to use the inseparable relationship between university students and their smartphones to create new options for higher education, converting their cellphones into flashcards. We have used this new technology to develop a simple application (app) to convert the smart mobile devices of students into flashcards.
We have developed an augmented reality (AR) flashcard application using Unity3D, which requires the user to identify a target image. Once the target image is identified, it can be replaced by any other digital output, i.e., 2D image, 3D models, or videos. We used images of histological sections of oral mucosa, which dentistry students study as a part of an oral biology course.
The AR flashcard application worked on both iOS and Android systems. It was able to detect the target image and replace it with the output image on the device screen.
Using this application, students will be able to independently learn and self-test their learning at their own convenience. Instructors can use the application to provide additional study aids for the students. Our application, which is being developed as a pilot project, will be expanded and applied as a learning tool for students studying dentistry at the University of Alberta.
