In addition, we performed time-lapse imaging of microglial processes in hippocampal slice cultures to examine the effects of BDNF on microglial motility. Time-lapse imaging revealed increases in the motility of microglial processes and the engulfment of mossy fiber synapses by microglia when BDNF signaling was pharmacologically blocked. Thus, neuronal BDNF prevents microglia from engulfing mossy fiber synapses in the hippocampus.
Dark current radiation produced during linac beam-hold has the potential to lead to unplanned dose delivered to the patient. With the increased usage of motion management and step-and-shoot IMRT deliveries for MR-guided systems leading to increased beam-hold time, it is necessary to consider the impact of dark current radiation on patient treatments.
The relative dose rate due to dark current for the ViewRay MRIdian linac was measured longitudinally over 15months (June 2018-August 2019). Ion chamber measurements were acquired with the linac in the beam-hold state and the beam-on state, with the ratio representing the relative dark current dose rate. The potential contribution of the dark current dose to the overall prescription was retrospectively analyzed for 972 fractions from 83 patients over the same time period. The amount of time spent in the beam-hold state was combined with the monthly measured relative dark current dose rate to estimate the dark current dose contribution.
The relative dark currit will not lead to dosimetric inaccuracies. For the MRIdian linac system investigated in this work, the contribution from dark current remained relatively low, though users should be cognizant of the larger potential dosimetric contribution for plans with small doses per segment.The visual system of cetaceans is at best poorly understood. The growth rates of tumor-to-muscle ratios of 68 Ga-NOTA-SAC were 88% at 60 min and 220% at 90 min, compared to 30 min p.i. The potential of 68 Ga-NOTA-SAC as a PET tracer is expected to contribute to the diagnostic research on CA IX-overexpressed tumors with the advantages of a relatively simple synthesis method.
Although colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB) is considered to have good prognosis with conservative therapy, some cases are severe. The efficacy of urgent colonoscopy for CDB and clinical factors affecting CDB prognosis are unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of urgent colonoscopy for CDB and identify risk factors for unfavorable events, including in-hospital death during admission, owing to CDB.
We collected CDB patients’ data using the Diagnosis Procedure Combination database system. We divided eligible patients into urgent and elective colonoscopy groups using propensity score matching and compared endoscopic hemostasis and in-hospital death rates and length of hospital stay. We also conducted logistic regression analysis to identify clinical factors affecting CBD clinical events, including in-hospital death, a relatively rare CDB complication.
Urgent colonoscopy reduced the in-hospital death rate (0.35% vs 0.58%, P=0.033) and increased the endoscopic hemostasis rate (3.0% vs 1.7%, P<0.0001) compared with elective colonoscopy. Length of hospitalization was shorter in the urgent than in the elective colonoscopy group (8 vs 9days, P<0.0001). Multivariate analysis also revealed that urgent colonoscopy reduced in-hospital death (odds ratio=0.67, 95% confidence interval 0.46-0.97, P=0.036) and increased endoscopic hemostasis (odds ratio=1.84, 95% confidence interval 1.53-2.22, P< 0.0001).
Urgent colonoscopy for CDB may facilitate identification of the bleeding site and reduce in-hospital death. The necessity and appropriate timing of urgent colonoscopy should be considered based on patients’ condition.
