Statistical analyses were then performed on these metrics using linear regression, and one- and two-way ANOVA testing to examine group differences and interactions between aging and AD propagation. No significant interactions were found between aging and AD propagation in the global topological metrics (network efficiency, characteristic path length, transitivity, and modularity coefficient). However, nodal metrics (clustering coefficient and betweenness centrality) of some cortical parcels exhibited significant interactions between aging and AD propagation, with affected parcels including left superior temporal, right pars triangularis, and right precentral. The results collectively confirm the age-related deterioration of structural networks in MCI and AD patients, providing novel insight into the cross effects of aging and AD disorder on brain structural networks. Some early symptoms of AD may also be due to age-associated anatomic vulnerability interacting with early anatomic changes associated with AD.Older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) have a high risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Gait performance is a potential clinical marker for the progression of MCI into dementia. However, the relationship between gait and brain functional connectivity (FC) in older adults with MCI remains unclear. Forty-five subjects [MCI group, n = 23; healthy control (HC) group, n = 22] were recruited. Each subject performed a walking task (Task 01), counting backward-walking task (Task 02), naming animals-walking task (Task 03), and calculating-walking task (Task 04). The gait parameters and cerebral oxygenation signals from the left prefrontal cortex (LPFC), right prefrontal cortex (RPFC), left motor cortex (LMC), right motor cortex (RMC), left occipital leaf cortex (LOL), and right occipital leaf cortex (ROL) were obtained simultaneously. Wavelet phase coherence was calculated in two frequency intervals low frequency (interval I, 0.052-0.145 Hz) and very low frequency (interval II, 0.021-0.052 Hz). Results showed that the FC of RPFC-RMC is significantly lower in interval I in Task 03 compared with that in Task 02 in the MCI group (p = 0.001). Also, the right relative symmetry index (IDpsR) is significantly lower in Task 03 compared with that in Task 02 (p = 0.000). DMAMCL The IDpsR is positively correlated with the FC of RPFC-RMC in interval I in the MCI group (R = 0.205, p = 0.041). The gait symmetry such as left relative symmetry index (IDpsL) and IDpsR is significantly lower in the dual-task (DT) situation compared with the single task in the two groups (p less then 0.05). The results suggested that the IDpsR might reflect abnormal change in FC of RPFC-RMC in interval I in the MCI population during Task 03. The gait symmetry is affected by DTs in both groups. The findings of this study may have a pivotal role in the early monitoring and intervention of brain dysfunction among older adults with MCI.Motivational and attentional processes energize action sequences to facilitate evolutionary competition and promote behavioral fitness. Decades of neuropharmacology, electrophysiology and electrochemistry research indicate that the mesocorticolimbic DA pathway modulates both motivation and attention. More recently, it was realized that mesocorticolimbic DA function is tightly regulated by the brain’s endocannabinoid system and greatly influenced by exogenous cannabinoids-which have been harnessed by humanity for medicinal, ritualistic, and recreational uses for 12,000 years. Exogenous cannabinoids, like the primary psychoactive component of cannabis, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, produce their effects by acting at binding sites for naturally occurring endocannabinoids. The brain’s endocannabinoid system consists of two G-protein coupled receptors, endogenous lipid ligands for these receptor targets, and several synthetic and metabolic enzymes involved in their production and degradation. Emerging evidence indnally, dissociable features of attentional behavior using both the 5-choice serial reaction time task and the attentional set-shifting task are discussed along with their distinct influences by DA and cannabinoids. We end with discussing potential targets for further research regarding DA-cannabinoid interactions within key substrates involved in motivation and attention.Herein, we report the longitudinal observation of a case with reopening of the macular hole associated with a lamellar macular hole-associated epiretinal proliferation (LHEP) followed by spontaneous closure in patients with stage 2 idiopathic macular hole. A 64-year-old woman was referred for the decreased visual acuity (VA) and acute anorthopia in the right eye. Funduscopy and optical coherence tomography (OCT) showed stage 2 full-thickness macular hole without posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) and operculum formation. Her best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 20/32. One month later, the diameter of the macular hole was getting small and VA improved. Six months later, the macular hole was treated spontaneously with the attached hyaloid membrane to the macula by OCT and the BCVA improved to 20/20. Fourteen months after the first visit, the BCVA decreased to 20/50 and the patient was diagnosed with stage 4 macular hole with complete PVD. OCT showed full-thickness macular hole with a LHEP in the right eye. After 25G-gauge vitrectomy with the peeling of internal limiting membrane (ILM) and LHEP, the macular hole was closed and BCVA finally improved to 20/25. Spontaneous macular hole closure without PVD may rarely occur in patients with LHEP. The surgical removal of ILM and LHEP may contribute to the successful macular hole closure after vitrectomy.A 66-years-old Vietnamese healthy female patient presented with prolonged severe right ocular pain and complete vision loss in that eye. Anterior segment assessment including gonioscopy identified angle-closure configuration. A suspected ciliary body melanoma was seen through the pupil. Posterior segment examination revealed a large tumor mass and 360° retinal detachment (kissing configuration). An ultrasound examination was consistent with a uveal tumor. The painful, blind right eye with a tumor mass was enucleated. Histopathology confirmed a type A uveal spindle cell melanoma associated with total serous retinal detachment without evidence of tumor necrosis, epithelioid cells, scleral, or optic nerve infiltration. There was no evidence of metastasis after 1-year of follow-up. It is critically important to differentiate primary and secondary angle closure, especially in cases with life-threatening ocular malignancy as uveal melanoma.
