    Interleukin 10 has been shown to play a critical role in the regulation of the immune responses in allergic diseases.

    To investigate if genetic polymorphisms in the promoter region of the IL-10 gene are associated with food allergy (FA) susceptibility in Caucasian pediatric patients with concomitant allergic diseases and IL-10 levels.

    The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at -1082A>G (rs1800896), -819T>C (rs1800871), and -592A>C (rs1800872) of 62 pediatric patients with IgE-mediated FA were analyzed and correlated with clinical parameters, serum IgE and IL-10 levels. The results were compared with those of 92 healthy controls without FA, personal and/or family history of atopy.

    Analysis and comparison of genotype distributions, allele frequencies, and haplotypes showed that none of the genotypes confers an increased risk of FA. The genotype -1082 AA in FA patients was associated with moderate to severe symptoms of FA, the development of atopic asthma, and higher levels of IL-10. In a linear regression study, we confirmed that the genotype -1082 AA acts as an independent factor for the higher levels of IL-10. A positive association was also observed between -819T/C and -592 A/C SNPs and later onset of FA.

    Cognitive impairment is common in patients with PD. Core markers of Alzheimer’s dementia have been related also to PD dementia, but no disease-specific signature to predict PD dementia exists to date.

    The aim of this study was to investigate CSF markers associated with cognition in early PD.

    A high-throughput suspension bead array examined 216 proteins in CSF of 74 PD patients in the AETIONOMY project. Cognitive function was assessed with Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of the Neuropsychological Status, Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and Mini-Mental State Examination.

    Of 69 patients with complete data, 34 had high (≥90) and 35 had low Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of the Neuropsychological Status total score (<90). Of 14 proteins in CSF that differed in levels between groups, increased kininogen-1, validated with several antibodies, was independently associated with lower Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of the Neuropsychological Status and Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores after adjustment for confounders.

Frozen foods that are well made in factories often experience quality deterioration due to temperature fluctuation during distribution. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of repeated freeze-thaw, which may occur during distribution, on the physical quality of frozen cooked rice. Additionally, the effect of the thermal insulation levels of the packaging on the quality change of frozen cooked rice as a result of repeated freeze-thaw was analyzed. this website The repeated freeze-thaw treatment of frozen cooked rice resulted in moisture loss, microstructure destruction, increase in hardness, increase in adhesiveness, decrease in the L* -value, increase in the a* -value, increase in the b* -value, and increase in the ΔE-value. In particular, the quality of frozen cooked rice quickly deteriorated in samples stored in packaging with low thermal insulation. On the contrary, the higher the thermal insulation of the packaging, the longer the changes in the physical properties of the frozen cooked rice were delayed. The findings of the present study show that the deterioration of quality induced by the repeated freeze-thaw treatment of frozen cooked rice could be suppressed by thermal insulated packaging. PRACTICAL APPLICATION The present study indicates that thermal insulated packaging can be used for industrial packaging of frozen cooked rice, as it delays the quality deteriorating effects of repeated freeze-thaw. This can help maintain the quality of frozen cooked rice and improve consumer satisfaction despite temperature fluctuations during distribution.Maternal effects have been well documented for offspring morphology and life history traits in plants and terrestrial animals, yet little is known about maternal effects in corals. Further, few studies have explored maternal effects in gene expression. In a previous study, F1 interspecific hybrid and purebred larvae of the coral species Acropora tenuis and Acropora loripes were settled and exposed to ambient or elevated temperature and pCO2 conditions for 7 months. At this stage, the hybrid coral recruits from both ocean conditions exhibited strong maternal effects in several fitness traits. We conducted RNA-sequencing on these corals and showed that gene expression of the hybrid Acropora also exhibited clear maternal effects. Only 40 genes were differentially expressed between hybrids and their maternal progenitor. In contrast, ~2000 differentially expressed genes were observed between hybrids and their paternal progenitors, and between the reciprocal F1 hybrids. These results indicate that maternal effects in coral gene expression can be long-lasting. Unlike findings from most short-term stress experiments in corals, no genes were differentially expressed in the hybrid nor purebred offspring after seven months of exposure to elevated temperature and pCO2 conditions.
