    A cross-sectional study was performed to describe disrespect and abuse practices in obstetric care (interactions or conditions that are experienced as or intended to be humiliating or undignified) committed by healthcare providers. We included all pregnant women admitted for childbirth (vaginal and cesarean). Semi-structured interviews were also conducted with women, prior to discharge, regarding their experience at delivery.

    Lactating women were enrolled at 4-6months postpartum. A 24h food recall was examined and nutrient intakes were analyzed using INMUCAL software. Human milk samples were collected to analyze calcium, copper, iron, and zinc levels. Plasma zinc and serum ferritin levels were determined.

    Thirty-four women participated; 19 were classified as full breastfeeding and 15 as partial breastfeeding. Mean levels of calcium, copper, iron, and zinc in human milk were 243, 0.2, 0.2, and 1.56mg/L, respectively. The prevalence of zinc deficiency (plasma zinc < 10.7µmol/L) was 11.8%. No lactating women had iron deficiency. Nutrient intakes were lower than the recommended amounts in 38%-70% of participants, and were not correlated with corresponding nutrient levels in human milk. Multiple linear regression showed significant association between zinc levels in human milk and plasma for lactating women with full breastfeeding (β = 0.034, 95% confidence interval [0.003, 0.067], p = 0.040).

    We assessed the impact of caesarean delivery on offspring respiratory and intestinal infection.

    Data were extracted from all live births (n = 429,058) occurring in the Australian state of Queensland between January 2009 and December 2015, and followed for 12months. Births were categorised as either non-medically indicated caesarean or vaginal delivery and each offspring had a record (present/absent) of respiratory and intestinal infection hospitalisation for each month from birth to 12months.

    Infants delivered by non-medically indicated caesarean were more likely to experience respiratory infection [OR = 1.51 (1.15, 1.99)] and intestinal infection [OR = 1.74 (1.19, 2.55)] than those born by vaginal delivery. In the propensity score weighted analyses the estimate for respiratory infection was similar but non-significant [OR = 1.52 (0.99, 2.31)], while the association with intestinal infection strengthened [OR = 2.21 (1.25, 3.89)].

A genetic map with 21 linkage groups encompasses 29,737 markers and spanned over the distance of 2549 cM. Composite (CIM) and multiple (MIM) interval mappings delivered comparable results.
