Aluminum phosphates are known as inorganic hardening agents for the setting of alkali silicate solutions, but only few studies have been published on the setting mechanism of potassium water glass. The solution behavior of two aluminum metaphosphates in alkaline environments were investigated photometrically determining the dissolved aluminum content. The crystalline phase composition of the hardened potassium silicate systems was determined by X-ray diffraction. New insights into the setting mechanism were obtained concerning the structure of the aluminum metaphosphate and the SiO2/K2O ratio of three different potassium silicate solutions. With increasing pH value aluminum tetrametaphosphate reacts rapidly and forms crystalline potassium tetrametaphosphate dihydrate by an ion-exchange-reaction. find more In parallel, a depolymerization of the cyclic metaphosphate structure occurs leading to potassium dihydrogen phosphate as final fragmentation product. With aluminum hexametaphosphate no ion-exchange reaction product was observed. Only potassium dihydrogen phosphate could be found in higher quantities compared to the reaction with aluminum tetrametaphosphate.Pectin extracted via hydrodynamic cavitation in water only from waste lemon peel and further isolated via freeze drying displays significant antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram positive pathogen which easily contaminates food. The antibacterial effect of the new IntegroPectin is largely superior to that of commercial citrus pectin, opening the way to advanced applications of a new bioproduct now obtainable in large amounts and at low cost from citrus juice industry’s waste. The theoretical limit of the color-change sensitivity of a composite resin dosimeter film based on 6-nitro BIPS/BaFCl Eu2+/polystyrene under X-ray exposure has been estimated. Each photophysical and photochemical process occurring inside the composite resin dosimeter was quantitatively determined, and the obtained values were used to estimate the theoretical limit of the color-change sensitivity for the composite resin dosimeter. The values obtained were 70.6 % for the X-ray absorption efficiency, 13 % for the fluorescence quantum yield, 73.5 % for the UV absorption efficiency and 37.6 % for the photochemical quantum yield. Assuming that the figure-of-merit is their product, its value is estimated to be 2.5 %, which contributes to the chromaticity difference and leads to a color-change sensitivity of 100 mGy. The figure-of-merit of a structurally optimized composite dosimeter was estimated to be 1.9 times that of the dosimeter without structural optimization, which showed a sensitivity of 100 mGy. We predicted that the structurally optimized composite resin dosimeter film, which eliminates optical losses due to the structure, will be able to detect X-ray exposure doses on the order of approximately 28 mGy.The three-fold HOMO-LUMO gap oscillation, typical of finite length armchair carbon nanotubes (CNT), has a major effect on the magnetic response of ultrashort, single-end-capped [5,5] carbon nanotubes to a perturbing magnetic field parallel to the main symmetry axis. For the CNT’s containing 40, 70, and 100 carbon atoms, for which 100 % of the C=C double bonds can be grouped into aromatic-sextets, i. e., fully or complete Clar networks, large paratropic (antiaromatic) global circulations around the cylindrical axis are predicted at the DFT level of calculation. Local and semi-global diatropic (aromatic) currents of strengths not larger than that of the benzene molecule are determined for a perpendicular perturbing magnetic field. CNTs of intermediate lengths do not display this enhanced antiaromatic response. The paratropic current flow clearly shows that these complete Clar networks can be viewed as stacked cycloparaphenylene belts, each providing a double 4 n annulene circuit as a consequence of the quinoidal resonance structure that results from their closure. Paradoxically, the fully aromatic Clar structure itself is responsible for the enhanced global antiaromaticity. We, Team SAIL, held the workshop at WONCA APR Conference 2019 for presenting the concept of Social Vital Signs (SVS) to an international audience. Background The qualities required for new graduates to become visiting nurses remain unclear. The present study aimed to clarify the qualities required for new graduate visiting nurses. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine home-visiting nurses. Content analysis was conducted by the transcribed data collected from visiting nurses. Results Years of nursing experience were ranged from 16 to 50. In total, 23 attributes were extracted and categorized. Conclusion Our findings indicated that the qualities required for new graduate visiting nurses were as follows basic knowledge and skills required as professionals and appropriate attitudes as members of society.Marchiafava-Bignami disease (MBD) is often diagnosed in chronic alcoholics. The disease processes typically involve the corpus callosum and clinically presents with various manifestations on the basis of clinical condition, extent of the splenium of the corpus callosum involvement at brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and prognosis. We report a patient affected by MBD, who presented an isolated reversible splenial lesion at brain MRI and achieved a favorable recovery.A blackish discolouration on the central part of the dorsal tongue in the front of the circumvallate papillae.”Stroke mimics” mean diseases presenting with acute neurological impairments that are taken for stroke. Discriminating them is crucial to avoid improper treatment or delayed correct treatment. We describe a 48-year-old woman presenting with a sudden onset of scintillating scotoma and left-lower quadrantanopsia. Hyperacute cerebral infarction was suspected. However, brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a mass at the cortico-medullary junction in the right occipital lobe. We diagnosed her as metastatic melanoma. We suspected that neurological deficits can be attributed to seizure, and therefore introduced levetiracetam. She showed neurological improvement immediately. Our case demonstrated the importance of considering brain tumor as a differential diagnosis in patients presenting with acute-onset neurological deficits. In addition to appropriate treatment of tumor, the use of newer antiepileptic drugs resulted in good neurological prognosis in metastatic brain tumors.
