12, 95% CI 1.06-1.19, p  less then  0.001), Remuzzi score (OR = 1.21, 95% CI 1.02-1.43, p = 0.029) and acute tubular injury (ATI) score (OR = 4.72, 95% CI 2.32-9.60, p  less then  0.001). Prediction of DGF with ROC curve showed that the area under the curve was increased to 0.89 when all variables (donor score, Remuzzi score, ATI score and HMP resistance index) were considered together. Conclusions Combination of donor clinical information, kidney pre-implant histopathology and HMP parameters provide a more accurate prediction of DGF occurrence post-transplantation than any of the measures alone.OBJECTIVE To explore the experiences of mentoring higher-grade trainees amongst senior orthodontic trainers at Bristol Dental School. DESIGN Qualitative study using interpretive methodology. SETTING University of Bristol Dental School. PARTICIPANTS Six consultant orthodontists, five of whom also have district general hospital experience. METHODS One-to-one semi-structured interviews were undertaken on a purposeful sample of orthodontic trainers. The interviews were audio recorded, transcribed verbatim and Thematic Analysis was used to analyse the data. RESULTS Four main themes emerged from the data were. They were How to Mentor; Mentor-Mentee Pairings; Resources and Success; and Pitfalls of Mentoring. CONCLUSION The present study revealed that senior trainers have a good understanding of the qualities of a mentor and appreciate the roles which mentors need to perform. They are altruistic in their motives, but would benefit from more time, organisational support and training to help them perform their duties better.Recent evidence suggests that follicular development occurs in a wave-like model during the ovarian cycle, where up to three cohorts of follicles are recruited to complete folliculogenesis. This understanding overtakes the previous dogma stating that follicles grow only during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. Therefore, in in vitro fertilization (IVF), novel protocols regarding ovarian stimulation have been theorized based on the use of gonadotrophins to prompt the growth of antral follicles at any stage of the menstrual cycle. These unconventional protocols for ovarian stimulation aim at a more efficient management of poor-prognosis patients, otherwise exposed to conflicting outcomes after conventional approaches. DuoStim appears among these unconventional stimulation protocols as one of the most promising. It combines two consecutive stimulations in the follicular and luteal phases of the same ovarian cycle, aimed at increasing the number of oocytes retrieved and embryos produced in the short time-frame. This protocol has been suggested for the treatment of all conditions requiring a maximal and urgent exploitation of the ovarian reserve, such as oncological patients and poor responders at an advanced maternal age. At present, data from independent studies have outlined the consistency and reproducibility of this approach, which might also reduce the drop-out between consecutive failed IVF cycles in poor-prognosis patients. However, the protocol must be standardized, and more robust studies and cost-benefit analyses are needed to highlight the true clinical pros and cons deriving from DuoStim implementation in IVF.BACKGROUND Cannabinoid consumption during pregnancy has been increasing on the wave of the broad-based legalisation of cannabis in Western countries, raising concern about the putative detrimental outcomes on foetal neurodevelopment. Indeed, since the endocannabinoid system regulates synaptic plasticity, emotional and cognitive processes from early stages of life interfering with it and other excitability endogenous modulators, such as neuropeptide Y (NPY), might contribute to the occurrence of a vulnerable phenotype later in life. AIMS This research investigated whether in utero exposure to Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) may induce deficits in emotional/cognitive processes and alcohol vulnerability in adolescent offspring. NPY and excitatory postsynaptic density (PSD) machinery were measured as markers of neurobiological vulnerability. METHODS Following in utero THC exposure (2 mg/kg delivered subcutaneously), preadolescent male rat offspring were assessed for behavioural reactivity in the open field test, ned the development of alcohol-addictive behaviours. The abnormalities in NPY signalling and PSD make-up may represent the common neurobiological background, suggesting new targets for future research. Objectives A wide range of potential psychosocial, biological, genetic and environmental factors interact with each other in determining suicidal behaviors. The aim of this study was to evaluate several biological parameters referred to the complete blood count values in 259 suicide attempters (SA) and 164 non-suicide attempters (control group), according to the lethality of suicidal behavior. Methods After attempting suicide, subjects were admitted to the emergency ward of the IRCCS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino and later to the section of Psychiatry from 1st August 2013 to 31st July 2018. Socio-demographic and clinical characteristics as well as blood cell were collected. Results Individuals with high-lethality suicide attempts had a higher number of neutrophil, mean platelet volume, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio, platelet-lymphocyte ratio, and lower number of lymphocyte relative to both those with low-lethality suicide attempts and control group. Afer regression analysis, only the mean platelet volume and platelet to lymphocyte ratio resulted associated with high-lethality suicide attempt (HLSA).Conclusions Our findings provide a potential and useful peripheral biological marker able to help clinicians in understanding the complex phenomenon of suicide. However, further studies are needed to confirm the present findings.Transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) is a crucial factor implicated in the development of renal inflammation and tubulointerstitial fibrosis (TIF). The cytokine interleukin 22 (IL-22) was previously reported to involve in the pathogenesis of chronic inflammatory diseases, however recent studies showed that IL-22 could reduced inflammatory responses and tissue damage. check details In the present study, we aim to investigate the role and mechanisms of IL-22 in renal tubular cells inflammation and fibrosis induced by TGF-β1. HK-2 cells were treated with TGF-β1 in the presence of IL-22 or the Notch pathway inhibitor dibenzazepine (DBZ) for 48 h. Collagen I (Col I), fibronectin (FN), α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), vimentin and E-Cadherin were detected by western blot, proinflammatory factors (TNF-α, IL-6) and chemokines (MCP-1, RANTES) were evaluated by ELISA. Jagged1, Notch1, NICD1, and Hes1 were also detected by western blot. We found TGF-β1 increased the levels of Col I, FN, α-SMA and vimentin in HK-2 cells compared with control, and decreased E-Cadherin level, however, IL-22 restored their expressions partly.
