Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has increasingly gained importance as the main risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and type II diabetes mellitus. Various natural compounds derived from plants are associated with beneficial effects on the incidence and progression of MetS. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Capsicum annuum on factors related to MetS by assessing randomized controlled trials (written in English). We searched the online databases of PubMed, Embase, Google scholar, and Cochrane Library up to April 2020. ‘Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison and Outcomes’ format was used to determine whether intervention with C. annuum supplementation compared with placebo supplementation had any effect on the components of MetS among participants. We considered standardized mean differences (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) as effect size measures using random-effects model. Analysis of the included 11 studies (n = 609) showed that C. annuum supplementation had significant effect on low density lipoprotein-cholesterol [SMD = - 0.39; 95% CI – 0.72, – 0.07; P = 0.02; prediction interval, – 1.28 to 0.50] and marginally significant effect on body weight [SMD = - 0.19; 95% CI – 0.40, 0.03; P = 0.09]. However, larger and well-designed clinical trials are needed to investigate the effects of C. annuum on MetS.A better understanding of the structure of polymers at solid interfaces is crucial for designing various polymer nano-composite materials from structural materials to nanomaterials for use in industry. To this end, the first step is to obtain information on how synthetic polymer chains adsorb onto a solid surface. We closely followed the trajectory of a single polymer chain on the surface as a function of temperature using atomic force microscopy. Combining the results with a full-atomistic molecular dynamics simulation revealed that the chain became more rigid on the way to reaching a pseudo-equilibrium state, accompanied by a change in its local conformation from mainly loops to trains. This information will be useful for regulating the physical properties of polymers at the interface.Cd is one of the potential toxic elements (PTEs) exerting great threats on the environment and living organisms and arising extensive attentions worldwide. Sedum alfredii Hance, a Cd hyperaccumulator, is of great importance in studying the mechanisms of Cd hyperaccumulation and has potentials for phytoremediation. ATP-binding cassette sub-family C (ABCC) belongs to the ABC transporter family, which is deemed to closely associate with multiple physiological processes including cellular homeostasis, metal detoxification, and transport of metabolites. In the present work, ten ABCC proteins were identified in S. alfredii Hance, exhibiting uniform domain structure and divergently clustering with those from Arabidopsis. Tissue-specific expression analysis indicated that some SaABCC genes had significantly higher expression in roots (Sa23221 and Sa88F144), stems (Sa13F200 and Sa14F98) and leaves (Sa13F200). Co-expression network analysis using these five SaABCC genes as hub genes produced two clades harboring different edge genes. Transcriptional expression profiles responsive to Cd illustrated a dramatic elevation of Sa14F190 and Sa18F186 genes. Heterologous expression in a Cd-sensitive yeast cell line, we confirmed the functions of Sa14F190 gene encoding ABCC in Cd accumulation. Our study performed a comprehensive analysis of ABCCs in S. alfredii Hance, firstly mapped their tissue-specific expression patterns responsive to Cd stress, and characterized the roles of Sa14F190 genes in Cd accumulation. The two-dimensional electrically conducting magnetohydrodynamic flow of micropolar nanofluid over an extending surface with chemical reaction and secondary slips conditions is deliberated in this article. The flow of nanofluid is treated with heat source/sink and nonlinear thermal radiation impacts. The system of equations is solved analytically and numerically. Both analytical and numerical approaches are compared with the help of figures and tables. In order to improve the validity of the solutions and the method convergence, a descriptive demonstration of residual errors for various factors is presented. Also the convergence of an analytical approach is shown. The impacts of relevance parameters on velocity, micro-rotation, thermal, and concentration fields for first- and second-order velocity slips are accessible through figures. The velocity field heightens with the rise in micropolar, micro-rotation, and primary order velocity parameters, while other parameters have reducing impact on the velocity field. The micro-rotation field reduces with micro-rotation, secondary order velocity slip, and micropolar parameters but escalates with the primary order velocity slip parameter. The thermal field heightens with escalating non-uniform heat sink/source, Biot number, temperature ratio factor, and thermal radiation factor. The concentration field escalates with the increasing Biot number, while reduces with heightening chemical reaction and Schmidt number. learn more The assessment of skin factor, thermal transfer, and mass transfer are calculated through tables.Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease with high heterogeneity in human. Different mouse models have been applied for investigation of pathogenesis and treatment of asthma, which target on different cells, receptors and pathways. Interleukin (IL-) 28B, a member of λ-interferons, have been shown to play a protective role in OVA-induced asthma, which is antigen-specific and adaptive immune system dominant. However, the roles of IL-28B in protease-induced asthma, an adaptive immune system independent asthma, are still unclear. Here, we used plant-derived cysteine protease, papain to induce asthma in mice and found that IL-28B was capable of alleviating papain-induced asthma. Papain challenge lead to activation of epithelial cells and production of alarmin, such as IL-25 and thymic stromal lymphopoietin and IL-28B treatment down-regulated their production. Further mechanism was proved to be that IL-28B inhibited the phosphorylation of Erk in epithelial cells via interaction with their receptors. Our results reveal a protective role of IL-28B via regulation of epithelial cells in protease induced asthma.
