    This study investigated the protective properties of strawberry fruit on testicular oxidative injury. Oxidative injury was induced in vitro in testicular tissue homogenates by incubation with ferrous sulphate (FeSO4 ) in the presence and absence of strawberry fruit extract (SFE) for 30 min at 37˚C, with gallic acid serving as the standard antioxidant drug. Induction of oxidative injury significantly reduced glutathione, cholesterol and triglyceride levels; and inhibited SOD, catalase and ENTPDase activities when compared to normal control. Ferroptosis activator It also led to exacerbated nitric oxide, malondialdehyde, LDL-cholesterol levels, acetylcholinesterase, ATPase and lipase activities. These effects were, however, reversed following treatment with SFE when compared to the untreated control, except for cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Additionally, the induction of the oxidative injury led to alterations in testicular lipid metabolites that were accompanied by the activation of α-linolenic acid and linoleic acid metabolic pathways. While SFE treatment had no significant impact on the altered metabolites, it repressed pathways for mitochondrial beta-oxidation of long-chain saturated fatty acids and plasmalogen synthesis. High-performance liquid chromatography analysis of SFE revealed the presence of rutin, caffeic acid, p-coumarin and cinnamic acid. These data imply the protective potentials of strawberry fruits against testicular oxidative injury.

    The outbreak of a SARS-CoV-2 resulted in a massive afflux of patients in hospital and intensive care units with many challenges. Blood transfusion was one of them regarding both blood banks (safety, collection, and stocks) and consumption (usual care and unknown specific demand of COVID-19 patients). The risk of mismatch was sufficient to plan blood transfusion restrictions if stocks became limited.

    Withdrawal of elective surgery and non-urgent care and admission of 2291 COVID-19 patients reduced global activity by 33% but transfusion by 17% only. Only 237 (10.3) % of COVID-19 patients required blood transfusion, including 45 (2.0%) with acute bleeding. Lockdown and cancellation of mobile collection resulted in an 11% reduction in blood donation compared to 2019. The ratio of reduction in blood transfusion to blood donation remained positive and stocks were slightlyle donation but with little impact on a short period by mobilization of usual donors. No mismatch between demand and donation was evidenced and no planned restriction to blood transfusion was necessary.

    The association between mode of delivery and postnatal depression is uncertain. Mental health history may modify the association.

    The objective of this study was to determine whether the association between caesarean and postnatal psychological distress (PPD) differs according to long-standing depression/anxiety.

    Analysis of the UK-based Millennium Cohort Study of women who gave birth 2000-2002 was carried out. The outcomes were PPD at 9months by Rutter Malaise Inventory and actively treated physician-diagnosed depression/severe anxiety at 3years. The exposure was mode of delivery. Adjusted relative risks were estimated using Poisson regression. Effect modification according to long-standing depression/anxiety was investigated multiplicatively and additively.

    We included 15,936 women, of whom 2346 (13.4%, weighted) reported PPD. Women with long-standing depression/anxiety were at 34% lower risk of PPD following elective caesarean, compared with vaginal birth relative risk (RR) 4.36 (95% confidence intctively treated depression/anxiety at 3years. These associations were not observed in women without long-standing depression/anxiety.

    Women with long-standing depression or anxiety who had elective caesarean had a lower risk of postnatal distress. When this group had emergency caesarean, there was greater risk of actively treated depression/anxiety at 3 years. These associations were not observed in women without long-standing depression/anxiety.Our prior studies demonstrated that the rat hippocampal opioid system can undergo sex-specific adaptations to external stimuli that can influence opioid-associated learning processes. This opioid system extensively overlaps with the cannabinoid system. Moreover, acute administration of Δ9 Tetrahydrocannabinoid (THC), the primary psychoactive constituent of cannabis, can alter cognitive behaviors that involve the hippocampus. Here, we use light and electron microscopic immunocytochemical methods to examine the effects of acute THC (5 mg/kg, i.p., 1 h) on mossy fiber Leu-Enkephalin (LEnk) levels and the distribution and phosphorylation levels of delta and mu opioid receptors (DORs and MORs, respectively) in CA3 pyramidal cells and parvalbumin dentate hilar interneurons of adult female and male Sprague-Dawley rats. In females with elevated estrogen states (proestrus/estrus stage), acute THC altered the opioid system so that it resembled that seen in vehicle-injected females with low estrogen states (diestrus) and males (1) mossy fiber LEnk levels in CA2/3a decreased; (2) phosphorylated-DOR levels in CA2/3a pyramidal cells increased; and (3) phosphorylated-MOR levels increased in most CA3b laminae. In males, acute THC resulted in the internalization of MORs in parvalbumin-containing interneuron dendrites which would decrease disinhibition of granule cells. In both sexes, acute THC redistributed DORs to the near plasma membrane of CA3 pyramidal cell dendrites, however, the dendritic region varied with sex. Additionally, acute THC also resulted in a sex-specific redistribution of DORs within CA3 pyramidal cell dendrites which could differentially promote synaptic plasticity and/or opioid-associated learning processes in both females and males.This study was to evaluate the effects of two different ultrastructures of lecithin including nanoparticles (NPE mostly nanomicelles) and lecithin nanoliposome (NLE) with egg yolk extender (EYE) on goat sperm cryopreservation. Semen samples were collected from 6 goats, then pooled, diluted and then frozen. Motility and motion parameters, plasma membrane integrity and functionality, morphology, apoptosis status (Annexin V-PI), acrosome integrity, DNA fragmentation and in vitro fertilisation were assessed. Total motility and most motion parameters were higher in EYE (p less then .05) compared with the two lecithin extenders, while there were no significant differences between NLE and NPE. NLE and NPE had higher values for viable spermatozoa (Annexin V-PI) (p less then .05) compared with EYE. The highest value for dead spermatozoa was observed in EYE (p = .08). A higher percentage of DNA fragmentation (p less then .05) was detected in EYE compared with NPE. Plasma membrane integrity and functionality, morphology, acrosome integrity and fertility of spermatozoa indicated no significant differences between extenders.
