Subjective attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms seen in adult depressive patients have often become a pathophysiological topic in recent years. Screening questionnaires are widely used for detecting ADHD; however, the risk of misdiagnosis exists. L-685,458 The present study examined whether self-perceptions of ADHD-related characteristics were consistent regardless of changes in the severity of depressive symptoms. Between April to October 2018, newly diagnosed depressed outpatients aged 24-59 years with good social functioning and without a history of ADHD were asked to fill out the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale version 1.1 (ASRS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at baseline (n = 726) and 12-week follow-up (n = 202). A statistically significant correlation was found between a change in BDI and ASRS scores (score at baseline minus score at the endpoint; r = .57). In addition, the higher the rate of improvement in BDI, the lower the frequency of positive screening for ADHD by ASRS. This study showed that subjective ADHD symptoms were correlated with depressive states. Diagnostic evaluation of comorbid ADHD using self-report scales in a primary care setting should be made with caution.The aim of the study was to investigate changes in both subjectively and objectively measured cognitive functions as well as their discrepancy in outpatients with major depression disorder in the course of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). A neuropsychological test battery with cognitive tests measuring the domains of attention, memory, and executive functions as well as a questionnaire for the self-assessment of cognitive functions (FLei) in these domains were administered to depressed outpatients (n = 46) at the beginning of CBT, post-treatment after on average 40 sessions, as well as six months after the end of treatment. We found that subjectively as well as objectively measured cognitive functions did not change. The discrepancy between subjective and objective cognitive functions found at the beginning of therapy was no longer significant at post-treatment and six months later. The results indicate, that self-perceived and neuropsychologically measured cognitive impairments show stability despite improved depression. Specific interventions such as cognitive remediation therapy should be additionally applied to depressed patients who suffer from cognitive deficits.Euphorbia ebracteolata Hayata, as a traditional medicine, is widely distributed in China, Korea and Japan. In China, the dried root of this plant is named ‘langdu’. It is traditionally used to treat oedema, skin ulcers, abdominal distension, cough, asthma, tuberculosis swelling and other diseases. Previous studies have found that the chemical constituents of E. ebracteolata are mainly concentrated in terpenoids, acetophenones, and flavonoids. Both extracts and pure compounds from E. ebracteolata were found to possess many pharmacological activities, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antimicrobial effects. In addition, it was reported that E. ebracteolata shows toxicity. To provide inspiration for further in-depth studies on this plant, this review will provide a timely and systematic summary of E. ebracteolata in traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology toxicology, and quality control.MS/MS-based molecular networking showed differences in the chemical profiles, especially the terpenoid-coupled-phloroglucinol clusters, of Psidium guajava grown in Jeju Island of South Korea (“Jejuguava”), Vietnam and China. A chemical investigation of the 95% EtOH extract of Jejuguava leaves revealed meroterpenoids characterized by a dihydropyran ring junction between an acylphloroglucinol structure and terpenoid, and named jejuguajavones A-J (1-10). Compounds (±)-8-(±)-10 are racemic mixtures that were separated using a chiral HPLC column. The chemical structures of all the isolated compounds (1-10) were determined by analyzing the spectroscopic data and performing electronic circular dichroism calculations. Among the isolates, compounds 1-4 exhibit inhibitory activity against the protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) enzyme, and this result was confirmed by molecular docking simulations.Seven undescribed compounds, namely (+)-psiflavanone A, (-)-psiflavanone A, (+)-psiflavanone B, (-)-psiflavanone B, (+)-psiketide, (-)-psiketide, and psidinone, were isolated and chirally separated from the 95%-ethanol extract of Psidium guajava leaves. (+)/(-)-Psiflavanone A and (+)/(-)-psiflavanone B are two pairs of rare enantiomeric C-benzoylated flavanones isolated from the title plant for the first time. (+)/(-)-Psiketide are a pair of enantiomeric aromatic polyketides, and psidinone is the first example of a C18 phenanthrenediquinone with an angle-type 6/6/6 tricyclic skeleton. Their structures were identified by extensive analysis of HRESIMS, UV, IR, NMR, and calculated electronic circular dichroism (ECD) data. Particularly, the structures of (+)-psiflavanone A, (-)-psiflavanone A, (+)-psiflavanone B, and psidinone were further confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Psidinone exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Mycobacterium Smegmatis mc2 155, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 16, 8, and 0.5 μM, respectively. These results not only highlight the chemical diversity and biological activity of P. guajava but are also expected to pave way for its further expansion to other applications in future.A sensitive naked eye and ratio-fluorescence sensor for Curcumin (CCM) and hypochlorite (ClO-) determination based on copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) was developed. The fluorescence of the Cu NCs can be quenched due to inner filter effect (IFE) between CCM and Cu NCs, and the ratio fluorescence probe was formed. After adding ClO- to Cu NCs-CCM system, the phenolic and methoxy groups of CCM were oxidized to quinones, then the fluorescence of CCM was quenched and the fluorescence of Cu NC was restored. Moreover, the continuous detection of CCM and ClO- is accompanied by the change of solution color. Therefore, CCM and ClO- semiquantitative visual and fluorescence dual channel detection were realized. The detection results show that the detection based on Cu NCs-CCM probe has a wide detection range (0-412 µM) and low detection limit (24 µM), and a good recovery rate is obtained in adulterated milk and tap water detection. Furthermore, smartphone was introduced for image digital colorimetric analysis through the acquisition, recognition and RGB data processing of solution colors, providing an effective scheme for the field rapid detection of hypochlorite.
