the form of FNB and CFNC causes a significant decrease in postoperative opioid consumption. Differences between single-shot FNB or CFNC were minimal. There were no significant differences in clinical outcomes such as HLOS, delirium, 30-day and 90-day mortality and postoperative falls. We suggest that use of LRA should be incorporated in the perioperative treatment of elderly patients with a hip fracture. For future research, we recommend evaluating the number of postoperative complications and mortality.
To evaluate ferumoxytol-enhanced vascular suppression for visualizing branch nerves of the brachial plexus in magnetic resonance (MR) neurography.
Signal simulations were performed to determine ferumoxytol’s effect on nerve-, fat-, and blood-to-muscle contrast and to optimize pulse sequence parameters. Prospective, in vivo assessment included 10 subjects with chronic anemia who underwent a total of 19 (9 bilateral) pre- and post-infusion brachial plexus exams using three-dimensional (3D), T
-weighted short-tau inversion recovery (T
-STIR) sequences at 3.0T. Two musculoskeletal radiologists qualitatively rated sequences for the degree of vascular suppression and brachial plexus branch nerve conspicuity. Nerve-to-muscle, -fat, and -vessel contrast ratios were measured.
Quantitative nerve/muscle and nerve/small vessel contrast ratios (CRs) increased with ferumoxytol (p < 0.05). Qualitative vascular suppression and suprascapular nerve visualization improved following ferumoxytol administration for both raters (p < .05). Pre- and post-ferumoxytol exams demonstrated moderate to near-perfect inter-rater agreement for nerve visualization and diagnostic confidence for the suprascapular and axillary nerves but poor to no agreement for the long thoracic nerve.

To review the clinical and imaging findings of patients with remote history of intramuscular (IM) in vitro fertilization (IVF) gluteal injections, presenting with signs and symptoms of a possible gluteal soft tissue sarcoma.
Retrospective review of consecutive patients with a history of prior IVF therapy referred for MRI evaluation of a gluteal soft tissue mass was performed. Six patients were reviewed, with 5 patients meeting study inclusion criteria. Imaging exams (ultrasound n= 3, MRI n= 5) were assessed for lesion location, morphology, and intrinsic imaging characteristics. One case proceeded to percutaneous biopsy with histopathologic correlation.
Average patient age was 43years (range 38-50). Mean time interval between IVF IM injections and MRI was 5.7years (range 2.2-13years). Clinical findings included palpable gluteal mass (5/5) and local pain (4/5). Ultrasound showed heterogeneous subcutaneous lesions with varying complex cystic/solid internal echogenicity. On MRI, each case illustrated an irrrtent subcutaneous injection(s).
Robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (RA-TKA) was introduced to improve limb alignment, component positioning, soft-tissue balance and to minimize surgical outliers. This study investigates perioperative outcomes, complications, and early patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of one imageless RA-TKA system compared to conventional method TKA (CM-TKA) at 24-month follow-up.
This multi-surgeon retrospective cohort analysis compared 111 imageless RA-TKA patients to 110 CM-TKA patients (n = 221). Basic demographic information, intraoperative and postoperative data, and PROMs, including the functional score of the Knee Society Score (KSS-FS), The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), and the Short Form 12 Mental and Physical scores (SF-12M and P), were collected and recorded preoperatively, at 3-, 12- and 24-months postoperatively. Range of motion (ROM), estimated blood loss (EBL), surgical duration, and complications were also collected.
There were no baseline patient demographic differences between groups. EBL (240 vs. 190 mL, p < 0.001) and surgical duration (123 vs. 107 min, p < 0.001) were significantly greater in RA-TKA. Imageless RA-TKA is associated with greater EBL and surgical duration compared to CM-TKA. However, at 24-month follow-up, there were no significant differences in ROM, LOS, complications and PROMs between cohorts. Imageless robotic surgery leads to similar 24-month clinical outcomes as compared to CM-TKA.

To identify modifiable biomechanical and neuromuscular anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury risk factors for first-time ACL injury in adolescent female elite football and team handball players.
Adolescent female elite football and handball players with no previous ACL injury participated in the present study. At baseline, players were tested during side-cutting manoeuvres performed in a 3-dimensional motion analysis laboratory with concomitant electromyography (EMG) measurements. Maximal isometric lower limb muscle strength was assessed by handheld dynamometry. Players were prospectively followed for 2years after baseline testing, and all magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) verified ACL injuries were registered. The effect of 16 risk factor candidates on the relative risk (RR) of ACL injury was estimated using Poisson regression analysis.
Ninety players (age 16.9 ± 1.2years) were included in the analyses. Nine first-time ACL injuries (injury incidence 10.0% (95% confidence interval (CI) 5.4-18.6%)) were registered during the 2-year follow-up period. Four risk factor candidates were significantly associated with the risk of ACL injury (1) hip flexion angle at initial contact (IC) [RR 0.56, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.34-0.92], (2) internal knee rotation angle at IC [RR 1.13, 95% CI 1.08-1.19], (3) semitendinosus EMG activity 50ms prior to IC [RR 0.62, 95% CI 0.43-0.89], and (4) external hip rotator strength [RR 0.77, 95% CI 0.66-0.89].
Four distinct ACL injury risk factors related to the side-cutting manoeuvre were identified in a population of adolescent female elite football and team handball players with no previous ACL injury. As ACL injury typically occur during side-cutting, intervention programmes to modify these risk factors pose a promising strategy for ACL injury prevention in adolescent female elite football and team handball.
