Many studies have shown an association of childhood respiratory diseases with short-term temperature variability such as diurnal temperature range (DTR) and temperature change between two neighboring days (TCN). However, the impact of temperature variability on allergic rhinitis (AR) has not been investigated so far. This study sought to evaluate the short-term effect of temperature variability (i.e., TCN and DTR) on AR, as well as to identify vulnerable subpopulations.
We collected daily data on emergency room visits and outpatients for AR and weather variables in Hefei, China during 2014-2016. A distributed lag non-linear model that controlled for long-term trend and seasonality, mean temperature, relative humidity, day of week was used to fit the associations of AR with DTR and TCN. Stratified analyses by age, sex and occupation were also performed.
During the study period, there were a total of 53,538 cases and the average values of DTR and TCN were 8.4 °C (range 1.0 °C to 21.2 °C) and 0 °C (range - 12.2 °C to 5.9 °C), respectively. While we did not observe an adverse effect of DTR on AR, TCN was significantly associated with increased risk of AR. Specifically, a large temperature drop between two adjacent days (3.8 °C, 5th percentile of TCN) has a delayed and short-lasting effect on AR, with the estimated relative risk of 1.02 (95% confidence interval 1.01 to 1.04) at lag 12. Moreover, boys and children older than 15 years seemed to be more vulnerable to the effect of TCN.
This study provided evidence of an adverse effect of large temperature drops between two adjacent days on childhood AR. Attention paid to boys and older children may help prevent AR attacks.

Road traffic fatalities (RTF) is the 8th cause of mortality around the world. At the end of the Decade of Action, it would be of utmost importance to revisit our knowledge on the determinants of RTF. The aim of this study is to assess factors related to RTF at global level.
We used road safety development index which accounts for the interactions between system, human and products to assess the RTF in 115 and 113 countries in 2013 and 2016, respectively. To analyze data, three statistical procedures (linear regression, classification and regression trees, and multivariate adaptive regression splines) were employed.
Classification and regression trees has the best performance amongst all others followed by multivariate adaptive regression splines for 2013 and 2016 data set with an R
around 0.83. Results show that any increase in human development index was associated with RTF reduction. Comparing RTF data of 2013 and 2016, 8 countries experienced a change of more than 30%, which demonstrated a significant relationship with GINI index (named after Corrado Gini). Considering the three components of human development index, it is revealed that education explained most of RTF variation in classification and regression trees model followed by income and life expectancy.
Policymakers should consider road collisions as a socio-economic issue. In this regard, they can make provisions to reduce RTF in the long run by focusing on enhancing the three components of human development index, mainly education. However, there is a need to investigate the causation pathway among these three components with RTF with different time-trend procedures.

Although genes have been previously detected in pancreatic cancer (PC), aberrant genes that play roles in resectable pancreatic cancer should be further assessed.
Messenger RNA samples and clinicopathological data corrected with PC were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Resectable PC patients were randomly divided into a primary set and a validation set. Univariable Cox regression analysis, lasso-penalized Cox regression analysis, and multivariable Cox analysis were implemented to distinguish survival-related genes (SRGs). A risk score based on the SRGs was calculated by univariable Cox regression analysis. SRT1720 in vitro A genomic-clinical nomogram was established by integrating the risk score and clinicopathological data to predict overall survival (OS) in resectable PC.
Five survival-related genes (AADAC, DEF8, HIST1H1C, MET, and CHFR) were significantly correlated with OS in resectable PC. The resectable PC patients, based on risk score, were sorted into a high-risk group that showed considerably unfeutic tool for the resectable PC.
This case study in Makassar City, Indonesia aims to investigate the clinicians’ perceptions, including both satisfaction and barriers in using telemedicine in a large, established program which supported 3974 consultations in 2017.
A mixed methodology was used in this research utilizing a questionnaire with 12 questions, and semi-structured interviews. A purposeful sample of clinicians using the telemedicine system at the 39 primary care clinics in Makassar City were surveyed. A total of 100 clinicians participated in this study. All of them completed the questionnaires (76.9% response rate) and 15 of them were interviewed.
The result showed that 78% of the clinicians were satisfied with the telemedicine system. In free text responses 69% said that telemedicine allowed quicker diagnosis and treatment, 47% said poor internet connectivity was a significant obstacle in using the system, and 40% suggested improvement to the infrastructure including internet connection and electricity.
Overall, the clinicians were satisfied with the system, with the main benefit of rendering the diagnosis faster and easier for patients. However, poor internet connectivity was indicated as the main barrier. Most of the clinicians suggested improving the infrastructure especially the internet network.
