The PE group consumed significantly less protein, folate, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, D, and E than the non-PE group; however, both groups consumed amounts exceeding Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for protein, carbohydrates, sugar, sodium, iron, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, and C. Conversely, both groups consumed amounts significantly lower than DRIs for calcium, fibre, folate, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and vitamins A, D, E, and K. The PE group ate significantly less meat and alternatives, vegetables and fruit, and fruit than the non-PE group, and did not meet any of Canada’s Food Guide (2007) recommendations. The non-PE group met recommendations for meat and alternatives only. PE impacts the dietary intake of children’s home-packed lunches; however, many packed lunches were of low nutritional quality. Focus should be placed on provision of nutritionally complete school lunches for all children.Honokiol (HON) is one of the main biological active components of the traditional Chinese medicine Magnolia officinalis and has many health benefits. The aim of this study was to investigate whether HON could alleviate obesity in mice by inhibiting adipogenesis and promoting the browning of white adipose tissue (WAT). C57BL/6 mice were divided into five groups and fed with a normal diet (ND), high-fat diet (HFD), or HFD supplemented with 200 (H200), 400 (H400), or 800 (H800) mg/kg BW HON for 8 weeks. The results showed that the mice fed HFD plus HON had lower body fat ratios (BFRs) and smaller adipocyte diameters in the epididymal WAT compared with those of the HFD group. With a proteomics analysis, the HON group upregulated 30 proteins and downregulated 98 proteins in the epididymal WAT of mice, and the steroid O-acyltransferase 1 (SOAT1) was screened as a key protein. The HON supplement prevented HFD-induced adipogenesis by reduced the mRNA and protein expression of SOAT1 and CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-α (C/EBPα), suggesting that SOAT1 might play an important role in regulating adipogenesis. Moreover, HON treatment increased the expression of proteins related to the classical pathways of energy and lipid metabolism, such as AMP-activated kinase (AMPK) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), and promoted the browning of epididymal WAT by upregulation of the protein expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) in the HFD mice. In conclusion, these results suggest that HON supplements could prevent increases in body fat for HFD mice by suppressing adipogenesis and promoting WAT browning.The loss of green spaces in urbanized areas has triggered a potential thermal risk in the urban environment. While the existing literature has investigated the direct relationship between urban temperatures and health risks, little is known about causal relationships among key components of urban sustainability and health risks, through a pathway involving urban temperature. This study examined the multiple connections between urbanized land use, urban greenery, urban temperatures and health risks in Harris County, Texas. The census tract-level health data from the 500 Cities Project (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) is used for analysis. Structural equation model analyses showed that the urban temperature played a mediating role in associations between urbanized land use, urban greenery and health risk. Urban vegetation is associated with a decrease in health risks, while urban land use has associations with an increase in health risks. Findings suggest that proactive policies tailored to provide rich urban greenery in a neighborhood can alleviate urban land use effects on health risks.As part of the experiments herein, the mechanical properties of specimens made of poly-ether-ether-ketone (PEEK) material using 3D printing technology were determined. Two populations of specimens were investigated, the first of which contained an amorphous structure, while the other held a crystal structure. Methods According to inclusion and exclusion criteria, we enrolled 51 patients ≤15 years old admitted to our Institute between September 2012 and April 2020 with a febrile UTI who underwent DW-MRI evaluation. Clinical, laboratory and imaging data were collected. Statistical analysis was performed. Results 34 of 51 patients with an fUTI (66.7%) showed signs of acute parenchymal involvement at DW-MRI evaluation. In 27 of these 34 (79.4%), DW-MRI showed multiple areas of pyelonephritis. A statistically significant relationship (p = 0.0004) between older age at admission and pyelonephritis was demonstrated.
