These findings inform the specialized healthcare needs of children with ASD and other DDs.This study evaluated a range of diffuse reflectance spectroscopic (Vis-NIR spectrophotometers) and imaging (Hyperspectral imaging cameras) instruments for predicting pH, IMF and shear force values of beef in a meat processing pilot plant. A total of 364 beef striploin samples were evaluated and prediction models were developed using PLSR. Models for pH and IMF (except Vis snapshot camera) showed good fit with high Rcv2 (0.29-0.92) and low SECV values. Good prediction accuracy with high Rp2 (0.44-0.90), RPD and low SEP values was also observed. While low values of Rp2 for shear force was observed, the expected curvilinear relationship between predicted values of shear force and predicted values of pH was observed suggesting that spectroscopic measurements were able detect biophysical factors associated to these two attributes. Overall, it can be concluded that diffuse reflectance spectroscopy combined with chemometrics has a great potential to be used as an on/in-line quality monitoring system for the meat processing industry.

    In children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), low trabecular volumetric bone mineral density (Trab vBMD) has been reported. However, studies using the trabecular bone score (TBS) are scarce. The objective of our study was to assess areal bone mineral density at the lumbar spine (LS aBMD), the TBS and Trab vBMD in children with type 1 diabetes in comparison with healthy controls and to assess the relationship of Trab vBMD with TBS.

    A total of 205 children were assessed for their LS bone mineral content (BMC) and LS aBMD by dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and Trab vBMD at distal radius by peripheral quantitative computed tomography (pQCT). Methylene Blue mw Machine generated Z-scores for both LS aBMD and Trab vBMD were used. The retrospective DXA LS scans in children with T1DM (n=137, age 13.1 ± 3.2 years) and controls (n = 68, age 13.0 ± 2.7 years) were analysed with a research trial version of TBS iNsight software (Medimaps Group). The established TBS cut-offs were used to categorize TBS.

    The mean LS BMC, LS aBMD, TBS and Trab vBMDs were lower in children with T1DM. TBS was positively correlated with LS aBMD but not with Trab vBMD in both groups. Distribution of T1DM and control children was similar in the TBS categories. Over a fourth of the T1DM children with low Trab vBMD (below -2 Z score) had normal TBS, while, in children with LS aBMD Z-score > -2 from both groups, >50% had degraded or partially degraded TBS. Degraded TBS was seen in half the control children although none of them had low Trab vBMD.

    We found poor correlation between TBS and Trab vBMD in paediatric diabetic and healthy population. Our results also suggest establishing paediatric TBS cut offs in improving the classification of children having degraded trabecular bone.

    COVID-19 is an emerging, rapidly evolving global situation, infecting over 25 million people and causing more than 850,000 deaths. Several signs and symptoms have been described to be characteristic of the disease. However, there is a dearth of report on the description of the clinical characteristics of the disease in patients from Nigeria. This study was designed to provide a description of the clinical and demographic characteristics of COVID-19 patients in Nigeria.

    This study is a case series that includes patients that are evaluated between May and August 2020, and diagnosed with COVID-19. Patient health records were reviewed and evaluated to describe the clinical characteristics on presentation.

    A total of 154 COVID-19 patients were included in this study, with a mean age (S.D.) of 46.16 (13.701). Most of the patients survived (mortality rate of 2.6%), and were symptomatic (89.6%). There were more males (74.7%) than females, and the most common symptoms were fever, breathing difficulty, dry cough and malaise. Co-morbidities were also present in almost half of the study participants (49.4%).

In response to this overall situation, the creation of healthcare models such as monographic consultations and develop training programs in onconephrology could improve the care of these patients. Through an exploratory and descriptive study, we identified current situation of kidney involvement in cancer patients. The objective of the present study is to establish the criteria for specific assistance in the field of onconephrology. For this, we have reviewed key aspects and analyzed the current situation in our country, through a survey addressed to all nephrologists through the Spanish Society of Nephrology, together with the experience of 2 Spanish centers. From this information, we have established some requirements and recommendations for the start-up of these consultations.
