Myokymic discharges are classically associated with nerve injury from prior radiation but may occur in other neuromuscular disorders. Using quantitative analysis we aimed to identify the spectrum of conditions in which myokymic discharges are present and determine if there are electrophysiological features that distinguish postradiation from nonradiation causes of myokymia.
We reviewed the clinical history of all patients examined in our electromyography labs with myokymic discharges recorded from June 2017 to February 2020. Quantitative analysis of each myokymic discharge was performed using a custom MATLAB script, assessing features such as burst frequency, spikes per burst, and burst regularity.
Eighty-eight distinct myokymic discharges (70 patients) were analyzed 51 postradiation recordings from 35 patients and 37 recordings from 35 nonradiation patients. The diagnostic spectrum of nonradiation cases was diverse, with common causes being median neuropathy (n=8), cervical (n=7), and lumbar (n=5) radiculopathy, and motor neuron disease (n=5). On quantitative analysis, postradiation myokymia had an increased burst-to-silence ratio (median, 0.29; nonradiation,0.08) and greater peak number (median, 15; nonradiation,7). Except for one patient with hereditary peripheral nerve hyperexcitability, all patients who had two or more muscles demonstrating myokymic discharges belonged to postradiation group.

To explore the short-term changes after percutaneous intramyocardial septal radiofrequency ablation (PIMSRA) in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), using quantitative analysis of two-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (2D-STI).
This prospective self-controlled study included 30 HOCM patients treated with PIMSRA. The study for each patient spanned over at least 1 year. Interventricular septal thickness and the left ventricular outflow tract peak pressure gradient (LVOT-PG) were measured through echocardiography, and 2D-STI was used to evaluate the left ventricular (LV) systolic function and synchrony. Cardiac function was assessed using the New York Heart Association’s (NYHA) functional classification for cardiac disease, and through the serum levels of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP). Biomarkers procollagen type I carboxy-terminal propeptide (PICP) and matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2) were detected for noninvasive assessmen after PIMSRA. These 2D-STI variables can serve for objective, accurate, and noninvasive evaluation of the HOCM treatment.

The top hit 12, bearing the 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl moiety, exhibited substantial anti-proliferative activity against HepG2, HeLa, MCF-7, and A549 cells in vitro with IC50 values of 0.23 ± 0.08 μM, 0.15 ± 0.18 μM, 0.38 ± 0.12 μM, and 0.30 ± 0.13 μM, respectively. In addition, molecular docking hinted the possible interaction mode of compound 12 into the colchicine binding site of tubulin heterodimers. According to the applications of microtubule-targeting agents in both direct and synergistic cancer therapies, we hope this work might be of significance for future researches.Machine Learning-assisted Lipid Phase Analysis (MLLPA) is a new Python 3 module developed to analyze phase domains in a lipid membrane based on lipid molecular states. Reading standard simulation coordinate and trajectory files, the software first analyze the phase composition of the lipid membrane by using machine learning tools to label each individual molecules with respect to their state, and then decompose the simulation box using Voronoi tessellations to analyze the local environment of all the molecules of interest. MLLPA is versatile as it can read from multiple format (e.g., GROMACS, LAMMPS) and from either all-atom (e.g., CHARMM36) or coarse-grain models (e.g., Martini). It can also analyze multiple geometries of membranes (e.g., bilayers, vesicles). Finally, the software allows for training with more than two phases, allowing for multiple phase coexistence analysis.
Rates of traumatic brain injury (TBI) among older adults and treatment of this population in nursing homes are increasing. The objective of this study is to examine differences in the quality of care and outcomes of older adults with TBI in rural and urban settings by (1) comparing the rates of successful community discharge; and (2) reasons for not achieving successful discharge among patients in rural and urban environments.
Retrospective national cohort study of skilled nursing facility (SNF) patients using Medicare inpatient claims linked with Minimum Data Set assessments. Demographic, health, and facility characteristics were compared between rural and urban settings using descriptive statistics. Logistic regression with state random effects was used to identify characteristics that predicted successful discharge.
