w alternative therapeutic option for childhood with AUA, especially for families who are reluctant to undergo an appendectomy.
Although early series focused on benign disease, minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (MIPD) might be particularly suited for malignancy. Unlike their predecessors, fellowship-trained (FT) Hepatic-Pancreatic and Biliary (HPB) surgeons usually have equal skills in approaching peri-ampullary tumors (PT) either openly or via minimally invasive (MI) techniques.
We retrospectively reviewed a MI-HPB-FT surgeon’s 10-year experience with PD. A sub-analysis of malignant PT was also done (MIPD-PT vs. OPD-PT). The primary endpoint was to assess postoperative mortality and morbidity. Secondary endpoints included operative parameters, length of hospital stay, and survival analysis. Moreover, we addressed practice pattern changes for a surgeon straight out of training with no previous experience of independent surgery.
From December 2007-February 2018, one MI-HPB-FT performed a total of 100 PDs, including 57 MIPDs and 43 open PDs (OPDs). In both groups, over 70% of PDs were undertaken for malignancy. Eight patientime, the improved visualization of MI techniques may enable superior R0 rates when compared to historical open controls. Moreover, combined with quicker initiation of adjuvant chemotherapeutic treatments, this may eventually result in improved survival.A Correction to this paper has been published https//doi.org/10.1007/s12031-020-01746-x.We determined histological aspects of implanted human decellularized testicular matrix (DTM) in C57BL6 as a primitive step for further testis tissue engineering. A total of 4 immature human testicles were obtained after bilateral orchiectomy from patients with testicular feminization syndrome. selleck chemicals llc The optimal decellularization protocol was determined and the efficacy of decellularization was evaluated in two of the testicles. The remaining scaffolds were cut in 3 × 3 mm3 pieces and implanted between the tight muscles in 32 C57BL6. Biopsies were taken at 2, 4, 8, and 24 weeks postoperatively and stained with PLZF, protamine, and tekt1 markers. Histological examination of DTMs confirmed complete absence of nuclear remnants and preservation of the extracellular matrix. Successful cell seeding was observed in all follow-ups confirmed by H&E and IHC staining that increased continuously during the whole study. Interestingly, spermatogonial stem-like cells were observed on decellularized implants that were well differentiated during the follow-ups. Natural bioreactors may provide a good cell source for testes tissue regeneration. This technique may provide testis bioscaffold as a three-dimensional platform and further successful cell seeding to produce a functional testis. This novel technique may be beneficial for patients who require testicular supplementation.Wood-based industry is one of the main drivers of economic growth in Malaysia. Forest being the source of various lignocellulosic materials has many untapped potentials that could be exploited to produce sustainable and biodegradable nanosized material that possesses very interesting features for use in wood-based industry itself or across many different application fields. Wood-based products sector could also utilise various readily available nanomaterials to enhance the performance of existing products or to create new value added products from the forest. This review highlights recent developments in nanotechnology application in the wood-based products industry.
Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common illness in neurosurgical practice with a substantial recurrence rate. Previous studies found that serum lipids were associated with the risk of stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage. In the current study, we aimed to identify the relationship between serum lipids and CSDH recurrence.
The medical records of 274 consecutive surgical patients with CSDH in our department were reviewed and analyzed. Patients were separated into recurrence and non-recurrence groups. Univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to identify serum lipids (triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL, HDL) and other potential predictors associated with CSDH recurrence, and the performance of predictors was assessed with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.
Of the 274 patients included in the study, 42 (15.3%) experienced at least 1 recurrence of CSDH. Univariate analysis showed that age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, anticoagulant use, triglycerides, HDL, and midline shift were all significantly associated with CSDH recurrence. Multivariable Cox regression analysis found that only age, diabetes mellitus, midline shift, and HDL level were independent risk factors for CSDH recurrence. A higher HDL level (HR = 0.929, 95% CI 0.905-0.953) was significantly associated with a lower risk of recurrence, and ROC curve analysis revealed that the optimal HDL cut-off value as a predictor was 37.45 mg/dl.
Low level of high-density lipoprotein is significantly associated with recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma.

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women and the seventh most common of all human cancers. Development of new treatments is mandatory to improve the outcome of this disease. Replication-selective oncolytic herpes simplex viruses (HSVs) have emerged as a new platform for cancer therapy. The therapeutic potential of a triple-mutated oncolytic HSV (T-01) for human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cervical cancer was evaluated with immunodeficient and immune-complete models.
(1) The in vitro efficacy of T-01 on human cervical cancer cell lines, TC-1, HeLa, CaSki, and SKG IIIa was evaluated. (2) The in vivo efficacy of T-01 was examined in human HeLa xenograft and TC-1 syngeneic models of human cervical cancer. After flank tumors reached 5mm in diameter, the first intratumoral (i.t.) administration of T-01 was performed. Intratumoral administration of T-01 was performed with a 5day interval a total of 6 times.
In the in vitro study, T-01 was highly cytotoxic for all cell lines (48h after infection with T-01 at 1 × 10
