Knowledge of within-day factors associated with binge-eating severity among middle-aged fathers is limited. The purpose of the current report was to examine within-day associations of affect, diet, and activity in relation to binge-eating severity using ecological momentary assessment (EMA) in men.

Twenty-three middle-aged fathers completed 8days of EMA and wore accelerometers to objectively assess activity. Generalized estimating equations assessed relationships among affect, diet, and activity and binge-eating severity.

When positive affect was above average, men reported greater binge-eating severity in the next 2h. Oppositely, when negative affect was above average, men reported less binge-eating severity in the next 2h. At times when men reported consumption of sweets and fast food, they reported higher binge-eating severity during the same 2-h window. Men with greater average levels of light activity reported less overall binge-eating severity.

Findings show that affect, unhealthy food intake, and light activity could be targeted among middle-aged fathers to reduce binge-eating severity and prevent eating disorders.

Externalized weight bias (EWB), directed towards others, and internalized weight bias (IWB), directed towards the self, are thought to exacerbate obesity and disordered eating and may be important factors to assess and understand among individuals seeking bariatric surgery. This study examined clinical correlates (pre-surgical BMI, depressive symptoms, weight self-efficacy, and shape/weight overvaluation) of both EWB and IWB among individuals presenting for bariatric surgery with and without regular loss-of-control eating (LOC eating).

A total of 316 adults presenting for bariatric surgery completed established self-report measures to assess EWB, IWB, depressive symptoms, weight self-efficacy, and core symptoms of disordered eating including LOC eating and overvaluation of shape/weight.

IWB and EWB were not associated with pre-surgical BMI, age, or sex, but were both significantly higher among White than non-White participants. Adjusting for race, IWB and EWB were significantly associated with greater eating disorder psychopathology and depressive symptoms and with less weight-related self-efficacy. Participants who endorsed regular LOC eating (53.5% of the sample) endorsed significantly lower weight self-efficacy and higher IWB, EWB, depressive symptoms, and overvaluation of shape/weight.

Findings suggest that regular LOC eating is common among individuals seeking bariatric surgery and associated with a range of heightened eating disorder and psychosocial concerns including both IWB and EWB. Future research exploring the longitudinal significance of the relationship between these two forms of weight bias and LOC eating is indicated.

Selenite is a radiosensitizer and inhibitor of androgen receptor expression and function. In a phase I study (NCT02184533) in 15 subjects with metastatic cancer receiving daily oral sodium selenite with palliative radiation therapy, disease stabilization was observed, as evidenced by tumor regression, marked reduction in pain symptoms, and decreased prostate-specific antigen levels (only patients with castrate-resistant prostate cancer).

The aim of this work was to characterize the pharmacokinetics of selenite to suggest dosing strategies and to propose a study design for further investigation.

Withselenium plasma concentrations obtained from five dosing cohorts (5.5, 11, 16.5, 33, and 49.5 mg), a population pharmacokinetic model was constructed using NONMEM. The model described externally administered selenite (inorganic) with a baseline component for endogenous selenium levels. Using the pharmacokinetic model, simulations were performed to suggest dosing regimens that achieved in vitro target selenitedaily, 11 mg BID, 5.5 mg TID) achieved in vitro target selenite levels after one dose. The model and optimal sampling times may inform future studies evaluating the efficacy of selenite for metastatic cancer treatment.

To evaluate the detecting capability between planar imaging (PI) and PI combined with single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (PICWS), including

    I- and

I-labeled metaiodobenzylguanidine (mIBG) and to compare the detecting capability between

    I-mIBG and post-therapeutic

I-mIBG scintigraphy including PI and PICWS for Curie scoring in patients with neuroblastoma.

Sixty-two patients with 66 pairs of complete images with neuroblastoma were enrolled in this retrospective study.

    Comparing the Curie scoring between

I-mIBG PI and PICWS and between post-therapeutic

I-mIBG PI and PICWS, findings were concordantly negative in 28.79% and 18.18% of studies, concordantly positive in 66.67% and 74.24% of studies, and discordant in 4.54% and 7.58% of studies, respectively. PICWS was superior to PI including

    I- and

Orthorexia nervosa (ON), characterized by extreme behaviors driven by the goal of eating only healthy and pure foods, could plausibly be associated with avoidance of nicotine, alcohol, and illicit drugs. However, findings from the limited research on these relationships are mixed, and other eating disorders are associated with greater substance abuse.

An online survey was completed by 471 participants (86% women, mean age = 20) recruited from undergraduate courses and through an Instagram advertisement. The questionnaires assessed ON symptomatology; frequency of smoking, alcohol consumption, and illicit drug use; abuse of these substances; and motivations for using these substances.

ON scores were not significantly related to the level of use or abuse of nicotine, alcohol, or most illicit drugs. selleck chemicals Yet, ON scores were positively correlated with frequency of using illicit depressant drugs. Further, among substance users, ON scores were positively associated with smoking or vaping for the purpose of weight control, and with consuming alcohol and using illicit drugs for the purposes of conformity and coping with such negative emotions as anxiety and depression.
