Chronology
Ernest Cole was one of the first black freelance photographers in South Africa, whose early photographs, shocking at the time of their first publication, revealed to the world the life of blacks under apartheid. Cole fled South Africa in 1966 and lived in exile in the United States, where he photographed a lot in New York, as well as in America.
