Two girls go missing. Paul Chartier, a police recruit, joins a secret unit tracking a sex offender. After the operation fails, Chartier pursues the perpetrators independently, disillusioned by the legal constraints. Features Nosferatu, a symphony of horror (1922). I know it should be called “if you can” … and I think it would have worked too … but I decided to go that way … again no pun intended. The film is based on a true story – and I have no idea what happened in the 90s … and from what I understand, it requires a lot of creative liberties … with who did what to whom … who survived. and who didn’t … and I assume the main character (police/gendarmerie) is an amalgamation of several characters in one – I could obviously be wrong, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I was. That said, the movie may be long (2h30), but it never really feels that way. Well, maybe during the wedding at the beginning… I’ve been there, done that and I know it. Greeks party the same way – like Italians… is it necessary for the story? I’d say no… but maybe I’m missing something. The thrilling part is really well done… you feel with the main character… a lot of things go wrong… he has the right eye, he has the right “nose”… but will he convince the others? A lot of departments are almost working against each other… it’s well told and well acted… still for me it lacks an x-factor to make it go over the top… as much praise as it’s received… and as good as it is… it lacks the final push… a little more charisma maybe… more tension throughout… and so on.
