This review summarises existing research on the association between these indices and hard cardiovascular outcomes, outlines the strengths and weaknesses of these indices, and provides an overview of how longitudinal BP changes can be measured and used to improve cardiovascular disease risk prediction.Although longitudinal BP indices seem to predict cardiovascular outcomes better than present BP, there are considerable differences in the clinical feasibility of these indices along with a limited number of prospective data.INTRODUCTION Females are thought to have increased risk of developing post-traumatic headache following a traumatic head injury or concussion. However, the processes underlying this susceptibility remain unclear. We previously demonstrated the development of post-traumatic headache-like pain behaviors in a male rat model of mild closed head injury, along with the ability of sumatriptan and an anti-calcitonin-gene-related peptide monoclonal antibody to ameliorate these behaviors. Here, we conducted a follow-up study to explore the development of post-traumatic headache-like behaviors and the effectiveness of these headache therapies in females subjected to the same head trauma protocol. METHODS Adult female Sprague Dawley rats were subjected to a mild closed head injury using a weight-drop device (n = 126), or to a sham procedure (n = 28). Characterization of headache and pain related behaviors included assessment of changes in cutaneous cephalic and extracephalic tactile pain sensitivity, using von Frey monofte produced a renewed and pronounced cephalic and extracephalic pain hypersensitivity that was inhibited by sumatriptan, but only partially by the anti-calcitonin gene-related peptide treatment. Calcitonin gene-related peptide serum levels were elevated in females but not in males at 7 days post head injury. CONCLUSIONS Development of post-traumatic headache-like pain behaviors following a mild closed head injury, and responsiveness to treatment in rats is sexually dimorphic. When compared to the data obtained from male rats in the previous study, female rats display a prolonged state of cephalic hyperalgesia, increased responsiveness to a headache trigger, and a poorer effectiveness of an early and prolonged anti-calcitonin gene-related peptide treatment. The increased risk of females to develop post-traumatic headache may be linked to enhanced responsiveness of peripheral and/or central pain pathways and a mechanism independent of peripheral calcitonin gene-related peptide signaling.In the U.S., sexual minority men (SMM) are disproportionately affected by HIV. Interventions are needed to increase HIV prevention and treatment behaviors, especially among syndemically exposed SMM. In recent years, researchers have created and tested combination behavioral interventions co-targeting syndemics and HIV-related health behaviors. We evaluated that literature via systematic review and meta-analysis, identifying 44 trials targeting mental health symptoms, alcohol use, and drug use, as well as sexual risk behavior, antiretroviral adherence, and healthcare engagement. For the randomized controlled trials, we computed between-group, pre-post effect sizes and tested them via random-effects models. Results supported the efficacy of combined interventions with significant, small, positive effects for improving mental health and reducing substance use (d = .20, CIs 0.12, .29), and reducing sexual risk behavior and improving antiretroviral adherence (d = .16, CIs .03, .30). Stratification analyses indicate that longer (9+ sessions) and individual (vs. group) interventions resulted in stronger effects on syndemic but not health behavior outcomes. Intervention developers should attend to intervention intensity and format. We describe 7 cases of histopathologically confirmed CGIFS with different treatment plans and varying outcomes. Of particular note was that one of these patients developed allergic fungal rhinosinusitis after complete resolution of his primary invasive disease, a finding that has never been reported in the literature. Another patient had an atypical fungal species (Aspergillus nidulans) on fungal stain and culture, while one immunodeficient patient had a large intracerebral disease component and died after 2 months of treatment. Aim In the present research, we evaluated the synergistic effects of ketamine with two azole derivatives, itraconazole and fluconazole, on strains of Candida spp. to fluconazole. Materials & methods The drug synergy was evaluated by quantifying the fractional inhibitory concentration index and by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry techniques. Results Our achievements showed a synergistic effect between ketamine in addition to the two antifungal agents (fluconazole and itraconazole) against planktonic cells and biofilms of Candida spp. Conclusion This combination promoted alteration of membrane integrity, generation of reactive oxygen species, damage to and DNA and externalization of phosphatidylserine.
