    Nazarbayev’s support for nuke nonproliferation is among the reasons why the country was invited to host. Since it abandoned its Soviet-inherited nuclear weapons, Kazakhstan is a leading country in nonproliferation. Post-Cold War US’s focus on Central Asia has been shifted to Afghanistan.

    Trump’s South Asia strategy needed Pakistan to separate from. In this sense, the US required Kazakhstan as a back-door alternative shipping route for Afghanistan.
