Kazakhstan is a major country because of its strategic location. Kazakhstan also has a balance power between central Asian countries. The United States’ rivalry with Russia, Europe, or the United States has made Kazakhstan more significant in all aspects of economics, politics and strategy. The White House visit to Nazarbayev was a positive beginning for the US in its engagement strategy with the region.

Nazarbayev’s support for nuke nonproliferation is among the reasons why the country was invited to host. Since it abandoned its Soviet-inherited nuclear weapons, Kazakhstan is a leading country in nonproliferation. Post-Cold War US’s focus on Central Asia has been shifted to Afghanistan.

Trump’s South Asia strategy needed Pakistan to separate from. In this sense, the US required Kazakhstan as a back-door alternative shipping route for Afghanistan.

Tevfik Arif, a Turko-Kazakhstani businessman was born in 1953 in Soviet Kazakhstan to Turkish parents.
