26, p  less then  0.0001) and depression (β = 0.13, p  less then  0.0001) each predicted adult symptoms of depression and self-reported SCT predicted inattention (β = 0.12, p = 0.0026). Parent-reported depression, but not parent-reported SCT, predicted self-reported adult depression symptoms (β = 0.17, p = 0.0003). In contrast, when each adult outcome was regressed simultaneously on youth self-reported SCT and depression, neither predicted adulthood inattention or depression. These findings indicate that SCT in childhood and adolescence is strongly associated concurrently and predictively with both inattention and depression. Theoretical and clinical applications of the construct of SCT must take its robust association with both inattention and depression into account.Circular RNAs(circRNAs) are a large family of RNAs shaping covalently closed ring-like molecules and have become a hotspot with thousands of newly published studies. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells and have great potential in medical treatment due to their self-renewal ability and differentiation capacity. Abundant researches have unveiled that circRNAs have unique expression profile during the differentiation of stem cells and could serve as promising biomarkers of these cells. There are key circRNAs relevant to the differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis of stem cells with certain mechanisms such as sponging miRNAs, interacting with proteins, and interfering mRNA translation. Moreover, several circRNAs have joined in the interplay between stem cells and lymphocytes. Our review will shed lights on the emerging roles of circRNAs in regulating the fate of diverse stem cells.Nuclear factor-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a key transcription factor known to be involved in maintaining cell redox balance and signal transduction and plays central role in reducing intracellular oxidative stress damage, delaying cell senescence and preventing age-related diseases. However, it has been shown that the level of Nrf2 decreases with age and that the silencing of the Nrf2 gene is associated with the induction of premature senescence. Therefore, a plethora of researchers have focused on elucidating the regulatory mechanism of Nrf2 in the prevention of cell senescence. This complex regulatory mechanism of Nrf2 in the cell senescence process involves coordinated regulation of multiple signaling molecules. selleck inhibitor After summarizing the function of Nrf2 and its relationship with cell senescence pathway, this review focuses on the recent advances and progress made in elucidating the regulatory mechanism of Nrf2 in the cell senescence process. Additionally, the information collected here may provide insights for further research on Nrf2, in particular, on its regulatory mechanism in the cell senescence process.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia with several risk factors. Recent studies have suggested that the exposure to fine particulate matter (PM

) increased the incidence of AF, but there is no meta-analysis of AF occurrence due to the exposure to PM

in implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) patients.

We conducted a systematic review of publication using PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane library, and Web of Science to explore the association between PM

and AF within ICD patients. The chosen studies were published until June 11, 2020. The I

statistic and Q test were used to examine statistical heterogeneity across studies. Further sensitivity analyses were carried out to ascertain the reason for heterogeneity. Fixed or random-effect model was used to combine the effects. Final result was presented as the OR with 95% CI of increased incidence of AF for every 10 μg/m

    PM

    concentration increased.

After screening our analysis contained four studies and involved 1689 AF events from 572 patients. After using the random-effect model to combine the included study result, the overall OR was 1.24 (95% CI 1.00-1.53).

    Our meta-analysis indicated that PM

exposure had an adverse effect on AF incidence in ICD patients.

Our meta-analysis indicated that PM2.5 exposure had an adverse effect on AF incidence in ICD patients.Acute stress has substantial impact on white matter microstructure of people exposed to trauma. Its long-term consequence and how the brain changes from the stress remain unclear. In this study, we address this issue via diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Twenty-two trauma-exposed individuals who did not meet post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) diagnostic criteria were recruited from the most affected area of Wenchuan earthquake and scanned twice (within twenty-five days and two years after the quake, respectively). Their emotional distress was evaluated with the Self-Rating Anxiety/Depression Scales (SAS/SDS) at both scans. Automatic fiber quantification was used to examine brain microstructure alterations. Correlation analyses were also conducted to investigate relationships between brain microstructure changes and symptom improvement. A group of demographically matched healthy controls (N = 22) from another project were scanned once before the quake using the same imaging protocols as used with trauma-exposed non-PTSD (TENP) participants. Two years after the earthquake, TENP individuals exhibited significantly reduced FA in the parietal portion of left superior longitudinal fasciculus and high FA in the parietal portion of left corticospinal tract. Over the follow-up, increased FA of the left uncinate fasciculus and the left corticospinal tract with parallel reduction of SAS and SDS were observed in TENP. No significant association was found between brain microstructure changes and symptom improvement. These results indicate changes in WM microstructure integrity of TENP brains parallel with symptom improvement over time after acute stress. However, the change would be a long-term process without external intervention.

Gallstones are common in bariatric patients due to obesity and rapid weight loss. Bile duct stones after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) pose a technical challenge. We present our experience in management of bile duct stones following RYGB using laparoscopic-assisted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (LA-ERCP).

Retrospective review of RYGB patients who had endoscopic intervention for bile duct stones between 2010 and 2019. We assessed demographic and clinical outcomes.

There were 12 patients 9 females, median age 64years (range 34-73), median ASA score 3 (range 2-3), and median body mass index (BMI) 30kg/m

(range 24.4-46). Median time of presentation since RYGB was 5years (range 6-96months). Clinical presentations were biliary pain with deranged liver function tests (n = 8, 67%) and cholangitis (n = 4, 33%). Ten patients (83%) had cholecystectomy prior to presentation. LA-ERCP was performed in all 12 patients. It was successful in 10 patients (83%) of which 7 were performed as a primary intervention for bile duct stones and 3 were for residual stones following previous bile duct exploration.
