Two essential ECM proteins, fibrinogen and collagen I, were incorporated into the shell and the core of nanofibers, respectively, to mimic the sequential appearance of fibrinogen and collagen I in the wound healing process. The regulation of the biomimetic coaxial scaffolds on adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ASCs) was compared with that of the PLGA/fibrinogen, PLGA/collagen I and PLGA uniaxial scaffolds. Our results showed that the biomimetic coaxial scaffolds remarkably promoted the immunomodulatory paracrine secretion of ASCs. By incubating macrophages with ASC conditioned medium, the enhanced immunomodulation of ASCs on the biomimetic coaxial scaffolds was confirmed by the enhanced M1-to-M2 polarization of macrophages. Furthermore, the biomimetic coaxial scaffolds effectively promoted wound repair through resolving inflammation in diabetic rats. Here, we study strategies to impose fairness concurrently while training the model. While many fairness based approaches in vision rely on training adversarial modules together with the primary classification/regression task, in an effort to remove the influence of the protected attribute or variable, we show how ideas based on well-known optimization concepts can provide a simpler alternative. In our proposal, imposing fairness just requires specifying the protected attribute and utilizing our routine. We provide a detailed technical analysis and present experiments demonstrating that various fairness measures can be reliably imposed on a number of training tasks in vision in a manner that is interpretable.

    Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) and Miller Fisher Syndrome (MFS) are emerging as known consequences of COVID-19 infection. However, there have been no reported cases with positive GM1 or GQ1b antibodies in the literature to date. Although clinically similar, the pathophysiology of COVID-19 related GBS and MFS may be significantly different from cases in the pre-pandemic era.

    We present a patient with ascending areflexic weakness consistent with GBS with positive GM1 antibody. The patient had recovered from COVID-19 infection two weeks prior with mild viral illness and symptoms. Her weakness was isolated to the lower extremities and improved after intravenous immunoglobulin treatment. Patient recovered eventually.

On the ultrasound examination, it was discovered that she had a second trimester ectopic pregnancy which was treated surgically with a unilateral salpingectomy. We discuss in depth factors related to this woman’s care, such as appropriate assessment and evaluation of early medical abortion cases, the diagnostic challenges of early pregnancy scanning as well as the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on the provision of care in these scenarios, and how this affected this woman’s care.
