Wrist endoprosthesis is still an exceptional indication compared to the prosthesis of large joints, especially when a rescue surgery procedure of the wrist is no longer possible and the complete wrist arthrodesis is to be considered the ultima ratio. However, a suspended function in the wrist is accompanied by a significant restriction in the patient`s daily life. Using the fourth-generation endoprosthesis, the situation regarding long-term results for the hand has already improved. This means that a durability of more than 6 years is no longer a rarity. Defect situations in joints, in particular those which occur after tumor, still pose a greater challenge. If autologous reconstructions cannot be performed, custom-made prostheses can be considered as very rare indications for joint reconstruction. While these have been used for years on large joints such as shoulder, elbow, knee and hip, they have only been described on the hand in particular cases. We report the 10-year follow-up of implantation of a custom-made wrist prothesis (UNI-2™, KMI, Germany) in a 36-year-old patient with tumorous destruction of the distal radius by a giant cell tumor.

Overexpression of the tobacco lipid transfer protein (NtLTP1) gene in transgenic orange mint resulted in enhanced accumulation of monoterpenes in the cavity of head cells of glandular trichomes, which resulted in enhanced emission of monoterpenes from transgenic orange mints. Plants in the genus Mentha (Lamiaceae) produce volatile oils that accumulate in peltate glandular trichomes in the aerial parts of plants. A lipid transfer protein (NtLTP1) in tobacco showed glandular trichome-specific expression and supported the secretion of diterpenoid lipids from head cells of glandular trichomes (Choi et al., Plant J 70480-491,2012). Here, we constructed transgenic orange mint (Mentha × piperita f. citrata) overexpressing the tobacco NtLTP1 gene via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Transgenic lines of orange mint overexpressing NtLTP1 were confirmed by genomic PCR and RT-PCR. Immunoblotting analysis using an NtLTP1 polyclonal antibody showed clear dark spots at the position of the lipid exudates from tobaccomint. Heads of glandular trichomes in transgenic plants overexpressing the NtLTP1 gene showed a larger diameter than those of the wild-type control. The enhanced size of trichome heads in transgenic orange mint was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. Volatile components were extracted from wild-type and transgenic orange mint by solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and analyzed by headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS/GC/MS). Linalyl acetate was the most abundant component among the eleven identified monoterpenes in the volatile compounds extracted from both the wild-type and transgenic lines of orange mint. Overexpression of NtLTP1 in transgenic orange mint plants resulted in enhanced emission of volatile monoterpenoids compared with that of volatile monoterpenoids in the wild-type control plants.

SARS-CoV-2 is mainly transmitted by inhalation of droplets and aerosols. This puts healthcare professionals from specialties with close patient contact at high risk of nosocomial infections with SARS-CoV-2. In this context, preprocedural mouthrinses with hydrogen peroxide have been recommended before conducting intraoral procedures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a 1% hydrogen peroxide mouthrinse on reducing the intraoral SARS-CoV-2 load.

Twelve out of 98 initially screened hospitalized SARS-CoV-2-positive patients were included in this study. Intraoral viral load was determined by RT-PCR at baseline, whereupon patients had to gargle mouth and throat with 20mL of 1% hydrogen peroxide for 30s. After 30min, a second examination of intraoral viral load was performed by RT-PCR. Furthermore, virus culture was performed for specimens exhibiting viral load of at least 10

    RNA copies/mL at baseline.

Ten out of the 12 initially included SARS-CoV-2-positive patients completed the study. The hydrogen peroxide mouthrinse led to no significant reduction of intraoral viral load. Replicating virus could only be determined from one baseline specimen.

A 1% hydrogen peroxide mouthrinse does not reduce the intraoral viral load in SARS-CoV-2-positive subjects. However, virus culture did not yield any indication on the effects of the mouthrinse on the infectivity of the detected RNA copies.

The recommendation of a preprocedural mouthrinse with hydrogen peroxide before intraoral procedures is questionable and thus should not be supported any longer, but strict infection prevention regimens are of paramount importance.

To investigate the prevalence of molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) in children aged 12 to 15 years in Beijing, China.

A cross-sectional study was performed to recruit children aged 12 to 15 years old based on the method of multi-stage cluster random sampling during the Fourth National Oral Health Survey in Beijing, China, from September 2015 to March 2016. The first permanent molars (FPMs) and permanent incisors were examined for the presence of MIH by a single-calibrated examiner according to the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry (EAPD) criteria.

Of the 6523 children recruited, 655 (10.0%) had MIH. The average number of affected MIH teeth in children was 2.68 ± 1.51. There was no gender-specific difference. Epigenetics inhibitor With respect to the distribution of MIH in the mandible and maxilla, the most common condition was the simultaneous involvement of both the upper and lower FPMs. The severity of MIH was positively correlated with the number of affected teeth. The prevalence of MIH was lower in children who resided in the central districts and whose mothers had received higher education.

MIH was relatively prevalent among children aged 12 to 15 years old in Beijing, China.

This study is the first epidemiological survey on the prevalence of MIH in the pediatric population in North China. Some demographic and sociological factors were associated with the presence of MIH.
