Infants 0-3 mos and 4-6 mos in both baby cereal consumption groups consumed other solid foods, including baby foods and beverages, sweetened beverages, coffee and tea, 100% juice, vegetables (excluding potatoes), fruit, sugars, milk and yogurt, and mixed dishes. The baby cereal consumers and non-consumers groups had intakes aligned with the “American diet”. Baby cereal non-consumers had a significantly higher percentage of exclusively breast fed at ages 0-3 mos and a lower percentage formula fed. Conclusion This study provides detailed information on the introduction of baby cereals which was associated with better nutrient intakes and other complementary foods and intakes of nutrients that require special attention during early life. Further, cow’s milk products and solid foods were introduced prior to the American Academy of Pediatrics’ age recommendations. © 2020 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press. Background Appendectomy remains the most common emergency surgery. With the lack of literature from Saudi Arabia regarding the treatment for appendix disorders, this study aimed to identify the common motives for appendectomy in Northern Saudi Arabia. Methodology Data referring to be resected appendix patients who were diagnosed during the period from January 2018 to December 2018 were included in the present study. The diagnosis of the resected appendix was confirmed by conventional histopathology. Results The most common cause for the appendectomy was acute appendicitis followed by gangrenous perforated appendicitis, chronic appendicitis, and lymphoid hyperplasia, representing 85/129(66%), 33/129(26%), 8/129(6%), and 3/129(2%), in this order. Conclusion Appendectomy is a common procedure for the treatment of a large section of patients with appendicitis and appendicitis like clinical features. Acute appendicitis was the most motive for appendectomy followed by gangrenous perforated appendicitis in Northern Saudi Arabia. © 2020 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press.INTRODUCTION Diarrheal diseases are threat everywhere, but its frequency and impact are more severe in developing countries. Diarrhea occurs world-wide and causes 4% of all deaths and 5% of health loss to disability. In 2016, it was the eighth leading cause of mortality. Moreover, data from the World Health Organization indicated that diarrheal diseases are causes for an estimated 2 million deaths annually. Therefore, this study aimed to assess diarrheal diseases and associated behavioural factors. METHOD An institution based cross-sectional study was conducted. A stratified random sampling method was employed to select 1050 study participants. Participants were interviewed using structured questionnaire. To analysis the data, binary logistic regression and multivariable logistic regression analysis was conducted. RESULTS The two weeks prevalence of diarrhea was found to be 3.4%. Further, 1.6%, 10.5%, 10.7% and 9% of the food handlers had acute watery diarrhea, cough, an infection of runny nose and incidence of any fever respectively. Regular hand washing after toilet (AOR = 0.13 with 95% CI 0.024, 0.72), using toilet while wearing protective clothes/gown (AOR = 5.39 with 95% CI; 1.59, 18.32), habit of eating raw beef and raw vegetables (AOR = 6.27 with 95% CI 1.89-20.78), type of toilet (AOR = 4.07 with 95% CI 0.29-6.67 were associated significantly with diarrhea. CONCLUSION This assessment proved to be an essential activity for reduction of community diarrheal diseases, as a significant number of food handlers had diarrhea. selleck chemical Good sanitation, hygiene practice and a healthy lifestyle behavior can prevent diarrhea. A strong political commitment with appropriate budgetary allocation is essential for the control of diarrheal diseases. © 2020 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press.Introduction Naturally, in human body, there is a balance between free radicals and the antioxidant system. Yet, cigarette consumption in smokers increases free radicals and decreases antioxidants. A vast body of research showed that the ROS level of seminal fluid is reduced using oral antioxidant complements through enhancing the clearing capacity of free radicals. Thus, the present research aimed to explore the effect of vitamin complement consumption on changing male infertility indices among smokers. Methods In the present randomized clinical trial which was single-blinded, 50 infertile oligospermic and asthenospermic men participated. They were selected in a randomized convenient sampling method. Before the study began, a semen sample was taken from all participants for analysis. Subsequently, the patients received 30 mg of Q10 coenzyme, 8 mg of zinc, 100 mg of vitamin C, 12 mg of vitamin E, 400 mg of folic acid for a whole duration of 3 months on a daily basis (once a day) and 200 mg of selenium every other day after lunch. A second sample of seminal fluid was taken from patients and semen parameters were compared between the pre- and post-test. The relevant statistical analyses were conducted in SPSS.23. Results A comparison of pre-test and post-test results revealed that all sperm parameters including the volume, morphology, motion, count and progressive motility were significantly increased after the intervention (p ≥ 005). Moreover, a statistically significant improvement was observed in the pH and concentration of seminal fluid. Conclusion The present research showed that consuming vitamin complements (30 mg of Q10, mg of zinc, 100 mg of vitamin C, 12 mg of vitamin E, 400 mg of folic acid) once a day as well as 200 mg of selenium every other day can effectively improve the qualitative parameters (pH and concentration) and quantitative parameters (volume, motion, morphology, count and progressive motility) in infertile male smokers. © 2020 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press.Pneumonia eradication program has been implemented, but the incidence rate remains high. This research aims to evaluate the Pneumonia finding program in Sleman district of Indonesia. A mixed-method using sequential explanatory design was conducted during July-August 2019. Input, Process and Output were used as the evaluated methods. Input component were human resource quality, facilities, infrastructure and funding. Process aspect was planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Output was the Pneumonia finding coverage. The quantitative study that employed a survey was done among the Pneumonia officer in 25 primary health centres in the research area. Qualitative study used a semi-structured interview to explore the Pneumonia officer’s opinion about the case finding program. Analysis was performed in two stages 1) Quantitative analysis was started with input data to the spreadsheet, clean the data, and classify into the cut-off. 2) Qualitative analysis was done using a content analysis approach. Input and process found sufficient.
