The aim of this study is to investigate the emergence and development of sarcopenia research and guide to most cited articles for researchers.
Thomson Reuters’ Web of Science database was used to search for all articles related to the term ‘sarcopenia’. We also benefited from PubMed to find additional data about these articles. We analyzed the top 100 cited articles (T100) by topic, types of research methods, keywords, journal, author, year, institution, and average number of citations per year, as well. Correlations were also made between the total number of citations, the average number of citations per year (ACpY), impact factors, and the time period of publication.
The median number of citations for the most cited articles was 309 (range is from 213 to 4,082). The most investigated topics of sarcopenia were definition-diagnosis (n = 35), prognosis (n = 19), and treatment-recommendation (n = 11). The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) consensus definition published in 2010 had the highest total number of citations and ACpY. The most common types of research method, country, year, and keyword were epidemiological studies (n = 55), USA (n = 69), 2010 (n = 13), and sarcopenia (n = 39), respectively. No correlation exists between impact factor (IF) and number of citations or IF and ACpY.

Since their introduction in 2006, iron-assisted bio-sand filters (Kanchan filters) are widely used to treat well water in Nepal. The filters are constructed on the basis of As-removal with corroding zero-valent iron (ZVI), with water flowing through a filter bed of iron nails placed above a sand filter. According to several studies, the performance of Kanchan filters varies greatly and depends on the size of the iron nails, filter design, water composition, and operating conditions, leading to concerns about their actual efficiency. selleck chemical This study examined 38 Kanchan household filters for which insufficient As-removal was reported, to evaluate the reasons for limited removal efficiency and to define measures for improved performance. The measured arsenic removal ranged from 6.3% to 98.5%. The most relevant factors were the concentrations of As and Fe in the raw water, with the best removal efficiency observed for water with low As (123 µg/L) and high Fe (5.0 mg/L). Type A is rich in fluorine, metasilicic acid, radon components and a large number of essential elements, such as Na, that the human body needs, with trace elements, such as Cr and V, that are essential or possibly essential. Type B is rich in fluorine, metasilicate, strontium components and a large number of essential elements, Ca, Mg, and S, with trace elements, Cu, Mn, Mo, Co, and Ni, that are essential or possibly essential. These hot springs’ effects on the health of those bathing in them showed both types were associated with bone and joint diseases. The interactions between tumor and host cells, in which exosomes (EXs) play critical roles, have been shown to be among the major deteriorative tumor-promoting factors herein. Therefore, any endeavor to beneficially target these EX-mediated interactions could be of high importance.

L363 cells were treated with either EPA or DHA or left untreated and the released EXs (designated as E-EX, D-EX and C-EX, respectively) were used to treat NK cells for functional studies.
Myeloma EXs (C-EXs) significantly reduced NK cytotoxicity against K562 cells (P ≤ 0.05), whilements to be used in the treatment of MM as an adjuvant treatment. EXs released from L363 (myeloma) cells in their steady state increase IFN-γ production of NK cells, while reduce their cytotoxicity against the K562 cell line (right blue trace). EXs from L363 cells pre-treated with either EPA or DHA are weaker stimulators of IFN-γ production. These EXs also increase NK cytotoxicity and NKG2D expression (left brown trace) compared to the EXs obtained from untreated L363 cells. Based on these findings, myeloma EXs have both suppressive and stimulatory effects on different NK functions depending on the properties of their cells of origin, which can be exploited in the treatment of myeloma.
