Coordination compounds are well-known compounds that are being used as new materials for lithium storage because of their unique advantages, that is, designable structures, abundant active sites, and facile as well as mild synthetic routes. However, the electrode stability, low rate performance, and cycle life of coordination compounds are currently the main issues preventing their application as electrode materials, and the lithium-storage mechanism in coordination networks is not well understood. Herein, isostructural one-dimensional coordination compounds were synthesized to study their lithium-storage performance. learn more Co-HIPA and Ni-HIPA showed superior electrolyte stability than other M-HIPAs, and Co-HIPA displayed a superior reversible capacity and cycle stability, excellent rate performance, and clear voltage platform. DFT calculations and kinetic analysis revealed the influence of the metal center with different electronic structures on the lithium-storage mechanism. The simple binary fluoride α-SnF2 is shown to be an excellent birefringent material with outstanding birefringence, about 14 times that of MgF2 . Furthermore, it exhibits a shorter UV cutoff edge and easy crystal growth at ambient temperature compared to YVO4 and TiO2 . A novel theoretical calculation mode was established to analyze the stereochemical-activity lone-pair (SCALP) contribution to the birefringence (SCB) based on the SCALP’s strength and arrangement, and it was found that the large birefringence of α-SnF2 mainly benefits from well-aligned [SnF5 ] polyhedra with a strong SCALP. The exploration of the α-SnF2 birefringent crystal points out the direction of the future search for excellent birefringent materials.Rumination, repetitively thinking about the causes, consequences, and one’s negative affect, has been considered as an important factor of depression. The intrusion of ruminative thoughts is not easily controlled, and it may be useful to visualize one’s neural activity related to rumination and to use that information to facilitate one’s self-control. Real-time fMRI neurofeedback (rtfMRI-nf) enables one to see and regulate the fMRI signal from their own brain. This proof-of concept study utilized connectivity-based rtfMRI-nf (cnf) to normalize brain functional connectivity (FC) associated with rumination. Healthy participants were instructed to brake or decrease FC between the precuneus and the right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ), associated with high levels of rumination, while engaging in a self-referential task. The cnf group (n = 14) showed a linear decrease in the precuneus-rTPJ FC across neurofeedback training (trend [112] = -0.180, 95% confidence interval [CI] -0.330 to -0.031, while the sham group (n = 14) showed a linear increase in the target FC (trend [112] = 0.151, 95% CI 0.017 to 0.299). Although the cnf group showed a greater reduction in state-rumination compared to the sham group after neurofeedback training (p  less then  .05), decoupled precuneus-rTPJ FC did not predict attenuated state-rumination. We did not find any significant aversive effects of rtfMRI-nf in all study participants. These results suggest that cnf has the capacity to influence FC among precuneus and rTPJ of a ruminative brain circuit. This approach can be applied to mood and anxiety patients to determine the clinical benefits of reduction in maladaptive rumination.A stereoselective gold(I)-catalyzed vinylcyclopropanation of alkenes has been developed. A gold-coordinated cationic vinyl carbene species, readily generated via a rearrangement of the ethylenedithioacetal of propargyl aldehyde, reacts with a wide range of alkenes to afford thio-substituted vinylcyclopropanes. The gold-catalyzed vinyl cyclopropanation proceeds under mild conditions at room temperature and is generally selective for the formation of cis-substituted cyclopropanes. The reaction allows the formal introduction of a “naked” vinyl carbene, by subsequent chemoselective hydrodesulfurisation of the ethylenedithio-bridge. The synthetic utility of the new method is demonstrated by a short, racemic formal synthesis of the alkaloid cephalotaxin, hinging on a key vinyl cyclopropane-cyclopentene rearrangement.Professional values reflect nurses’ understanding of how to deliver professional care, which might influence nurses’ attitudes and caring behaviors during end-of-life care. However, limited research has been conducted to explore nurses’ experiences of professional development during end-of-life care, and theoretical explanations are scarce about how nurses enact their professional values during the caring process. This study explored the social process of professional values involved in end-of-life care in the Chinese cultural context by adopting a constructivist grounded theory approach. Twenty semi-structured in-depth interviews with 15 nurses from three hospitals in southeastern China were conducted. A theoretical framework emerged when focusing on the social process of “reframing the meaning of life and professional values” to facilitate professional care for terminally ill patients. Three main categories were sequentially identified as “recognizing the dilemmas when caring for terminally ill patients,” “applying strategies to deal with values conflict,” and “reconstructing values.” This theoretical framework may be applied as a practical framework for equipping nurses with effective strategies to cultivate professional values, including the provision of adequate end-of-life knowledge, and a supportive workplace environment.Laser ionization mass spectrometry (LIMS) was one of the first practical methods developed for in situ analysis of the surfaces of solid samples. This review will encompass several aspects related to this analytical method. First, we will discuss the process of laser ionization, the influence of the laser type on its performance, and imaging capabilities of this method. In the second chapter, we will follow the historic development of LIMS instrumentation. After a brief overview of the first-generation instruments developed in 1960-1990 years, we will discuss in detail more recent designs, which appeared during the last 2-3 decades. In the last part of our review, we will cover the recent applications of LIMS for surface analysis. These applications include various types of analyses of solid inorganic, organic, and heterogeneous samples, often in combination with depth profiling and imaging capability.
