    Objective To investigate the baseline knowledge of autonomic functions and specifically the International Standards to document remaining Autonomic Function after Spinal Cord Injury (ISAFSCI) among medical students and to present the effective methods in learning of the ISAFSCIDesign Interventional training sessionSetting A tertiary hospital.Participants 37 medical studentsInterventions Before training, a self-rating questionnaire including 24 concepts extracted from the ISAFSCI was administrated to the students. Then students were divided into two groups. One group (N = 19) had a one-hour ISAFSCI booklet self-study (BSS), while the other group (N = 18) received a one-hour lecture-based learning (LBL) about the ISAFSCI. After BSS/LBL, all students were examined by a 15-question written test on the knowledge of ISAFSCI.Main Outcome Measures Baseline knowledge self-rating questionnaire before training and comparison of post-training performance on the written test between the BSS and LBL groupsResults Before training, students were familiar with only 8 out of the 24 concepts within the questionnaire (demonstrating baseline knowledge rate beyond 50%). Significant difference in post-training performance (P less then 0.05) between BBS and LBL groups was noted for 5 of 15 items tested, including hypohydrosis, broncho-pulmonary system, lower urinary tract function, bowel function and female sexual function. All questions except the one regarding hypohydrosis were answered with greater than 80% accuracy by LBL group.Conclusion Use of ISAFSCI booklet alone for self-study by medical students is not sufficient to obtain bassline knowledge of autonomic discussions after SCI. It is recommended that formal lecture or presentation should be used to improve the effectiveness of learning the ISAFSCI for medical students.Palm oil is one of the most widely used vegetable oils by the food industry but there is limited information on actual intake. A detailed intake assessment of palm oil for Spain and Germany was conducted. For Spain, mean palm oil intakes ranged from 2.06 g/day in the elderly to 4.54 g/day in children and adolescents, while high-level intakes ranged from 10.34 g/day in the elderly to 20.88 g/day in toddlers. Many of the benefits induced by this type of diet result from the interaction of these dietary components with the gut microbiome, where they selectively enrich specific microbial species and increase microbial diversity. Understanding the interaction of habitual dietary patterns on the gut microbiome will lead to rational dietary manipulation to improve human health through prevention and treatment of disease.

    E-scooter use has grown rapidly in the United States. Its rise in popularity has coincided with the promotion of cycling in many cities, but more needs to be known about how these transportation modes compare to determine if cycling should serve as an appropriate benchmark for policy decisions and safety expectations regarding e-scooters.

    We examined characteristics of adults seeking treatment in a Washington, DC, emergency department (ED) for injuries associated with riding e-scooters during 2019 (

     = 99) or bicycles during 2015-2017 (

     = 337).

    E-scooter incidents less frequently involved moving vehicles (13.1% vs. 37.7%) or occurred on roads (24.5% vs. 50.7%) than cycling incidents. A smaller proportion of injured e-scooter riders were ages 30-49 (32.3% vs. 48.4%) and a larger proportion were 50 and older (34.3% vs. 22.6%) or female (45.5% vs. 29.1%). Distal lower extremity injuries were more common among e-scooter riders (13.1% vs. 3.0%; RR, 2.76; 95% CI, 1.79-3.54), and injuries to the proximal upomobility, but the characteristics of riders injured on them, the ways in which they become injured, and the types of injuries they sustain differ substantially. E-scooter rider injury rates, though currently high, may decrease as they gain experience; however, if the number of new users continues to climb, they will persist in using the ED more often than cyclists per mile that they travel.Background With improved long-term health outcomes and survivorship, the long-term nutritional management of childhood cancer survivors, from diagnosis to long-term follow-up, has become a priority. The aim of this study was to examine the diet quality of children receiving treatment for cancer. Methods Participants were parents of children with cancer who were receiving active treatment and not receiving supplementary nutrition. A 24-h dietary recall assessed food and nutrient intake. Serves of food group intakes and classification of core and discretionary items were made according to the Australian Dietary Guidelines and compared with age and sex recommendations. Results Sixty-four parents participated (75% female). Most children were not consuming adequate intake of vegetables (94% of patients), fruit (77%), and milk/alternatives (75%). Of the vegetables that were consumed, half were classified as discretionary foods (e.g., chips/fries). Nearly half (49%) of children exceeded recommendations for total sugar intake and 65% of patients had an excessive sodium intake. Discussion Children receiving cancer treatment are consuming diets of reasonable quantity, but poor quality. Information provided during treatment should focus on educating parents on a healthy diet for their child, the importance of establishing healthy eating habits for life, and strategies to overcome barriers to intake during treatment.
