The potential factors affecting the experiences and outcomes of such caregivers include contemporaneous relationships with perpetrating parents; caregivers’ sense of choice about providing care; opportunities for posttraumatic growth; and participating in care through the end of life.Conclusions Caregiving for perpetrating parents can be particularly challenging due to complex, intersecting factors; thus, healthcare practitioners’ increased awareness of and knowledge about such caregivers are crucial to provide effective support.Clinical Implications We highlighted the importance of ensuring caregivers’ sense of choice and assessing their posttraumatic growth. In caregiving at the end of life, we noted the importance of using a trauma-informed approach when interacting with caregivers and their family members during illness and bereavement.

    In low-resource public schools, these costs may be amplified for early career teachers who help students bear increasingly complex burdens despite lack of resources and specialized support. However, there are limited studies on how care work and its costs are experienced by early-career Filipino public school teachers in low-resource contexts. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine teachers’ stories of caring for burdened students using an integrative and critical narrative inquiry based on Clandinin’s narrative framework and Decenteceo’s cultural story-model of

We investigated associations between perceived discrimination, or the perception of unequal treatment in everyday life, and contraceptive method use among U.S. women. We analyzed population-based data from a 2013 study of U.S. women who were premenopausal, age 18-50, sexually active with a male partner in the last year and were not attempting pregnancy. Perceived discrimination was measured using the Everyday Discrimination Scale. Contraceptive method use was categorized into five method categories permanent, highly effective reversible, moderately effective, barrier and no method. We analyzed relationships between perceived discrimination and contraceptive method use with several regression models, controlling for covariates. Among 539 women in our analytic sample, those with high perceived discrimination had lower incomes, less educational attainment and were less likely to be insured. Perceived discrimination was associated with a reduced odds of using any contraceptive method (aOR 0.43, CI 0.21-0.87, p less then .001). Contraceptive method users with high perceived discrimination had an increased odds of using highly effective reversible methods versus moderately effective methods (aOR 5.28, CI 1.63-17.07 p = less then .001). Women who perceived discrimination were at risk for contraceptive nonuse; however, among contraceptive users, perceived discrimination was associated with the use of more effective reversible methods.Introduction The concepts of collaboration and interprofessional (IP) education were introduced to healthcare professions in the 1970s; however, it was not until the late 1990’s that the care provided by IP teams was recognized as important to the delivery of patient care. When institutions of higher learning include IP education in the curricula, students have the opportunity to immerse in collaborative learning experiences rather than being isolated in the traditional “siloes” of individual healthcare professions. The purpose of this work is to report the ongoing implementation, assessment, and improvement of an annual inter-university, multi-department simulation exercise developed to promote collaboration, collegiality, and communication within a healthcare setting.Methods Faculty from two universities in west Texas collaborated to provide a clinical simulation experience focusing on IP teamwork and cultural and spiritual diversity. Multiple scenarios were created and developed by faculty from the participating disciplines who were aided by the latest Clinical Practice guidelines.
