Various neuropsychiatric conditions, such as depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease, demonstrate evidence of impaired long-term potentiation, a cellular correlate of episodic memory function. This chapter discusses the mechanistic effects of these neuropsychiatric conditions on long-term potentiation and how exercise may help to…[Read more]

In submerged soils and sediments, clay minerals are often exposed to anoxic waters containing ferrous iron (Fe2+). Here, we investigated the sorption of Fe2+ onto a synthetic montmorillonite (Syn-1) low in structural Fe ( less then 0.05 mmol Fe per kg) under anoxic conditions and the effects of subsequent oxidation. Samples were prepared at two…[Read more]

Further study revealed that knocking down TCRP1 inhibited the growth of MCF‑7 cells with tamoxifen‑resistance (MCF7‑R cells) and induced cell apoptosis. Moreover, TCRP1 promoted serum‑ and glucocorticoid‑inducible kinase 1 (SGK1) activation via phosphorylation of phosphoinositide‑dependent kinase 1 (PDK1) in MCF7‑R cells. In addition, it…[Read more]

Neither postnatal dexamethasone treatment nor gestation showed any associations with lesion incidence, frontal cortex (total, white, or grey matter) or hippocampal volume (all p > 0.05). Postnatal dexamethasone did not appear to adversely affect neurodevelopment. Our post-mortem MRI analysis pipeline is suitable for other animal models of brain…[Read more]

CTLA-4 and PD-1 play a key role in tumor-induced downregulation of lymphocytic immune responses. Immune checkpoint inhibitors have been shown to alter the immune response to various cancer types. Anti-CTLA-4 and anti-PD-1 antibodies affect the interaction between tumor, antigen-presenting cells and T lymphocytes. Clinical studies of the…[Read more]
