An organic-inorganic hybrid polyiodate, namely, [o-C5 H4 NHOH]2 [I7 O18 (OH)]⋅3 H2 O (I), featuring a novel branched polyiodate chain has been obtained by evaporation method. [o-C5 H4 NHOH]2 [I7 O18 (OH)]⋅3 H2 O (I) crystalizes in the polar space group Ia and features an [I7 O18 (OH)] ∞ 2 – branched polyiodate chain in which [I3 O9 ]3- trimers are grafted on the same side of the one-dimensional (1D) chain based on [I4 O11 (OH)]3- tetramers. The asymmetric organic amine groups are beneficial to the polymerization of iodate groups and inducing the formation of the non-centrosymmetric (NCS) structure. Compound I exhibits a rather large Second-Harmonic- Generation (SHG) signal of 8.5×KH2 PO4 (KDP) upon 1064 nm laser radiation, a moderate band gap of 3.90 eV and a high laser-induced-damage-threshold (LIDT) of 182.34 MW cm-2 , hence it is a promising new SHG material. The relationship between the structures of the organic amine groups and the overall structures has been also analyzed.Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a severe cutaneous drug reaction. Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an acquired autoimmune disease that might be associated with drugs. There is currently no report of tripterygium glycosides (TG)-induced AGEP-like lesions combined with BP. A 66-year-old male with a 20-year history of psoriasis was prescribed oral TG at 1 mg/kg, three times a day, due to aggravated psoriasis. Seven days later, erythemas, and blisters appeared. After another 3 days, there were two types of blisters (1) numerous small tension blisters with a lot of neutrophils on the top similar to AGEP combined with BP; (2) a BP. After intravenous injection of methylprednisolone and gamma globulin, the lesions were controlled. This patient developed two types of lesions, including one similar to AGEP combined BP (AGEP-like) and a BP. It is a rare drug reaction induced by TG.
Apathy is common in normal ageing and widely recognized as a predictor of cognitive decline, especially in executive functions. Much less characterized than apathy in the elderly is impulsivity, which increases with ageing. It is also frequently described in comorbidity with apathy in various clinical populations, in whom it is associated with poorer executive functioning. In the present study, by capitalizing on a multidimensional approach, we explore the mediating role of facets of impulsivity on the bidirectional relationships between apathy dimensions and executive functioning in non-demented community-dwelling elderly individuals in daily life.
A sample of non-demented community-dwelling older adults (n= 101) completed self-rated questionnaires. Apathy was measured by the Apathy Evaluation Scale; impulsivity was examined through the Urgency, Premeditation, Perseverance, Sensation Seeking, Positive Urgency (UPPS-P) Impulsive Behaviour Scale; and executive functioning in daily life was assessed by the erlying psychological process implicated (i.e. lack of perseverance) among older adults without dementia and represent an interesting prospect for psychological interventions.
These preliminary findings suggest that, in normal ageing, apathy may share an overlap with impulsivity, contradicting the notion they represent opposite ends of a single behavioural spectrum. Our results argue for bidirectional relationship between a specific apathy dimension (i.e. cognitive apathy) and executive functioning. Moreover, they shed new light on the underlying psychological process implicated (i.e. lack of perseverance) among older adults without dementia and represent an interesting prospect for psychological interventions. The development of new-type memristors with special performance is of great interest. Herein, an inorganic-organic hybrid crystalline polyoxometalate (POM) with usual dynamic structures is reported and used as active material for fabricating memristor with unique temperature-regulated resistive switching behaviors. The hybrid POM not only exhibits tunable thermochromic properties, but also thermal-induced reversible aggregation and disaggregation reactions, leading to reversible structural transformations in SCSC fashion. Further, the memory device using the hybrid POM as active layer exhibits uncommon performance, which can keep resistive switching silent in the low temperature range of 30-150 °C, but show nonvolatile memory behavior in the high temperature range of 150-270 °C. Particularly, the silent and working states at three special temperatures (30, 150 and 270 °C) can be monitored by chromism. MEK inhibitor side effects The correlation between structure and resistive switching property of the material has been discussed. The work demonstrates that crystalline inorganic-organic hybrid POMs are promising materials for making memristors with superior performance.Visual information conveyed by a speaking face aids speech perception. In addition, children’s ability to comprehend visual-only speech (speechreading ability) is related to phonological awareness and reading skills in both deaf and hearing children. We tested whether training speechreading would improve speechreading, phoneme blending, and reading ability in hearing children. Ninety-two hearing 4- to 5-year-old children were randomised into two groups business-as-usual controls, and an intervention group, who completed three weeks of computerised speechreading training. The intervention group showed greater improvements in speechreading than the control group at post-test both immediately after training and 3 months later. This was the case for both trained and untrained words. There were no group effects on the phonological awareness or single-word reading tasks, although those with the lowest phoneme blending scores did show greater improvements in blending as a result of training. The improvement in speechreading in hearing children following brief training is encouraging. The results are also important in suggesting a hypothesis for future investigation that a focus on visual speech information may contribute to phonological skills, not only in deaf children but also in hearing children who are at risk of reading difficulties.
