We examined associations between youth 24-hour activity behaviour compositions and mental health. Data were collected from 359 participants (aged 9-13 years). Activity behaviours (sleep, sedentary time (ST), light physical activity (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA)) were assessed using wrist-worn accelerometers. Questionnaires and a computerized cognitive test battery assessed mental health outcomes. Linear mixed models examined associations between activity behaviour compositions and mental health. Post-hoc analyses modelled the influence of reallocating fixed durations of time between activity behaviours on mental health. ST was associated with worse internalizing problems (all participants; p less then 0.05) and poorer prosocial behaviour (primary school participants only; p less then 0.05), relative to the other activity behaviours. LPA was associated with worse cognitive test scores among primary school participants; p less then 0.05). For all participants, reallocating time to ST from sleep and MVPA was associated with higher internalizing problems. Among primary school participants, reallocating time to ST from any other behaviour was associated with poorer prosocial behaviour, and reallocating time to LPA from any other behaviour was associated with lower executive function. Children’s mental health may be promoted by schools integrating opportunities for MVPA throughout the day. Our results provide further evidence for the influence of daily activity behaviours on youth mental health. To explore the research status, hotspots, and trends in research on nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) channel. The Web of Science core collection database from 2000 to 2020 was used as the data source. The visual analysis software VOSviewer1.6.16 and Citespace5.7 R3 were used to visualize the studies of the nAChR channel. The national/institutional distribution, journal distribution, authors, and related research were discussed. A total of 5,794 articles were obtained. The USA and the Utah System of Higher Education were the most productive country and institution for nAChR channel research. Journal of Biological Chemistry was the most productive journal (212) and the most productive researcher was McIntosh, J. Michael. The first highly co-cited article was “Refined structure of the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor at 4A resolution.” The most researched area was neurosciences neurology. The hot spots of nAChR channel research were “subunit and structure of nAChR,” “activation/agonist of nAChR channel,” and “Changes in nAChRs With Alzheimer’s Disease.” The top three research frontiers of nAChR channel research were “neuropathic pain,” “neuroinflammation,” and “α7 nACHR.” The study provides a perspective to visualize and analyze hotspots and emerging trends in the nAChR channel.Based on a nationwide register data we recently reported a link between male infertility and increased risk of early onset prostate cancer. However, mortality due to prostate cancer, which can be regarded as the ultimate proxy for its clinical significance, especially in the context of over-diagnosis and over-treatment, could not be explored in the previous study, since the follow-up period in most cases was too short. Data therefore must be retrieved from other cohorts, with longer follow-up. We sourced data from a population-based prospective cohort including 11,343 men aged over 45 years, enrolled in the 1970s. The results showed that childless men have higher risk for prostate cancer related mortality (HR 1.49, 95% CI 1.09-2.03, p = 0.01) compared to men with children, in particular when only married men, who most probably are involuntary childless, were considered (HR 1.54, 95% CI 1.13 - 2.10, p = 0.006). However, the prostate cancer incidence did not differ (HR = 1.04, 95% CI 0.88-1.24). In conclusion, our results show that childless men are at higher risk for dying from prostate cancer, probably due to a more aggressive form of the disease.Neurons are long-lived cells that communicate via release of neurotransmitter at specialized contacts termed synapses. The maintenance of neuronal health and the regulation of synaptic function requires the efficient removal of damaged or dispensable proteins and organelles from synapses. How macroautophagy/autophagy contributes to neuronal and synaptic protein turnover, and what its main physiological substrates are in healthy neurons is largely unknown. We have now shown that loss of neuronal autophagy facilitates presynaptic neurotransmission by controlling the axonal endoplasmic reticulum and, thereby, axonal and synaptic calcium homeostasis.
Currently, there is limited evidence regarding clinical management of non-anterior non-infectious uveitis including treatment outcomes of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and their combinations. Treatment guidelines or recommendations on preferred choice of DMARD combinations and reduction and/or discontinuation strategies in quiescent uveitis are lacking. The TOFU (Treatment exit options for non-infectious uveitis) registry aims to document disease courses and to provide recommendations on DMARD treatment exit strategies.
The registry is an observational, non-commercial, and non-interventional study and targets patients who are ≥18years of age with non-infectious uveitis of the posterior segment or retinal vasculitis on or starting DMARD treatment. Data are entered prospectively at study sites through a web-based interface into electronic case report forms (eCRF) implemented in the electronic data capture software RedCap (Version 9, Vanderbilt University, USA). The collated data include ophthalmological, general medical history and patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Assessment of uveitis classification and activity follows the international Standardization of uveitis nomenclature (SUN) criteria. Patient appointment and treatment decisions remain at the discretion of the managing physician and are completely independent of participation in the registry. The study follows the tenets of the declaration of Helsinki.
The TOFU registry captures real-life data of patients with non-infectious uveitis of the posterior segment, involving both medical personnel and patients. The study adheres to international standards and will provide important evidence and guidance in the development of guidelines.
