I was hoping it would get better – it didn’t. I’m a bit older than the women portrayed; maybe I was lucky and had more options.
The experiences portrayed were not my own
But if you’re going to make a work of art, you need more than just recording. There were no layers, just tedious memories.
What about the role of the church?
What about holding those institutions accountable for this oppression? Reflecting on who or what can be held responsible?
What about the economic/political context?
What about the role of the family? The issues raised have been dealt with ad nauseam in many films, novels and documentaries; Now we need more information, not just memories.
